As football gets faster, scanning becomes more important. I had a go on the virtual reality tech designed to train it. Martin Odegaard asked for 120% speed. I was happy on 80%. Why scanning matters, how it can be honed and whether VR can really replicate the game. www.skysports.com/football/new...

Can't believe I forgot the most important Arsenal birthday yesterday: The Arsenal FC. 140 years ago yesterday the members of the Dial Square Cricket Club discussed and agreed to form a football team.

Arsenal Women have dropped 10 points in the WSL and sit 10 points off top in 10th place. Man City Women only dropped 11 points all season in 2025-26.

Very interesting, but debatable take. In global terms, despite the glut of titles*, Man City are now tainted to such an extent that their commercial value will have nosedived anyway; and it's not as if the PL would suddenly lose its main/only locomotive, like Serie A did when Juve were demoted.

Many clubs are sailing close to the wind on SCR so any reduction in revenue could see them incur fines or points deductions themselves unless they make special provisions.

They didn't go into detail but fewer games means having to refund broadcasters, there's probably success clauses or ongoing payments in deals of player sales to Man City, other sponsorship deals with UAE-based companies such as Emirates and a number of other things.

Some interesting stuff on Sky this morning. Premier League clubs have to vote to expel City. Three quarters of them have to vote for it. 15/19. And already, off the record conversations with club execs suggest that they won't get to that number because of the negative economic impact of doing so.

Some food for thought: The Companies Act 2006 makes it an offence for an officer to knowingly or recklessly give an auditor misleading, false or deceptive information (s.501), punishable by up to two years in prison. Fraud Act 2006 charges are also possible.

However, we concluded a) That evidence given by a number of important factual witnesses called to give evidence on behalf of the Club was false in a number of key respects, and b) That certain of those factual witnesses had given evidence ... that they knew to be untrue and so had been dishonest.
