It is disheartening some days how much those in power don't care. They don't even want to kept the system they sit on top of intact. They're greatest freedom is freedom from giving a shit.

whenever there's a big protest overseas you see a contingent of americans going 'see that's what *we* need' and then when that energy does show it's tut tutted online, demonized on tv, and sprayed with chemical agents on the street. it's language policed and/or police policed down.

Watched an El Santo movie and I htink the funniest thing to me is that he's simultaneously played as a detective superhero yet he's also still an in-universe wrestler, so he has to pause the plot to go wrestling three separate times
El Santo on a phonecall: "When I develop it, it'll be confirmed. Got to go wrestling."

What a surprise, the organizers of the covid cautious dyke bar hated the article, rejected its framing, and is defending their covid cautious patrons and performers. Anyone who joined in on the viral harassment campaign started by Jesse Singal wanna say oops or…? recorder.com/2026/09/24/g...
Current and former owners of Last Ditch could not be reached by phone, email or social media. However, Last Ditch did share on Instagram that the Globe story allegedly misconstrued statements from Noire, and urged community members to stop harassing Noire.
"It is neither productive, progressive, nor valiant to attack a Black patron. He has been a collaborator and performer of Last Ditch for a while, and he deserves to speak his mind about accountability and repair from the bar," the Last Ditch statement reads. "There are so many misconceptions due to the disorganization of the Globe article. He did not call for the bar to be firebombed. Further, he did not disparage the owner for being homeless.
"As a result of this abysmal journalism, he has been getting additional threats, slurs, harassment, and is being reported to the police over something he did not do," Last Ditch continued. "This is not supporting us at Last Ditch, and it is, at its core, anti-Blackness hysteria."

One of the most pathetic "politics knower" arguments is that if someone loses a presidential election, they are incompetent forever, which largely ignores the history of presidential elections. Between Machin killing voting reform and Biden's bullshit, any democrat winning would have been a miracle.

3 Screenshots from the movie "Ring" (1998): First, a woman in a dark sweater stands on a balcony behind a brick wall, looking outward with Japanese text on the screen reading "September 21st, Tuesday." Second, a man with his back turned raises his hand while facing a television showing an eerie outdoor scene in a dimly lit room. Third, a close-up of a pale eye partly obscured by long dark hair, creating an unsettling and ominous effect.

You mean the kind of smart people who read like one page of Baudrillard after watching The Matrix?
Imagine the amazing good fortune of the generation that gets to see the end of the world. This is as marvelous as being there in the beginning. How could one not wish for that with all one's heart? How could one not lend one's feeble resources to bringing it about?

The artwork of Pac-Man by Hiro Kimura made for the #Atari2600 release which went unused for being "too ferocious". It's a total departure from the game but also a really cool and goofy piece. Still a bit cropped on the bottom. Usual upscale/clean/retouch process applied.

Image depicts a human like Pac-Man running scared while grabbing and munching on rectangular pellets while ferocious Kaiju looking ghost chase him with huge open mouths filled with sharp teeth where the red one can be seen drooling. Governor Abigail Spanberger quietly ended a rulemaking process initiated in the waning days of former-governor Glenn Youngkin's administration. The rule would have limited transgender students' ability to play sports and use facilities.
But Spanberger said over the weekend the rule is now dead.
Governor Abigail Spanberger told a crowd at Virginia Pridefest Saturday she was moved by the story of a transgender child and the issues their families face.
"And I tell you I burst into tears because of the fact that I want to make members of the
LGBTQ+ community know that you have a governor that values your community," Spanberger said from the Pridefest stage.

It's like a parody, but it's deadly serious; the Commerce Department (which includes Census, NOAA, and others) has outright deleted "don't alter or suppress scientific findings for political reasons" from its scientific integrity rules. Seriously.
Protecting against "inappropriate influence" is no longer a "hallmark" of scientific integrity

The Commerce Department updated its policy for promoting a "culture of scientific integrity" in January 2025, days before Trump's second inauguration.

A new Trump administration order bans the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis from using statistical “noise,” or data for fuzzing survey results, to protect people’s privacy in their statistics.

The 2025 version included bans on attempts to shape or interfere in data collection, statistical analysis and other scientific activities "against well-accepted scientific methods and theories or without scientific justification."

The department's policy, the 2025 version said, involves ensuring scientific findings at its agencies "are not suppressed, delayed, or altered for political purposes and are not subjected to inappropriate influence," as well as making sure there's "independent review of facilities, methodologies, and other scientific activities as appropriate to ensure scientific integrity."

That language is missing, however, in the Trump administration's revision of the policy, according to an NPR analysis of text posted on the Commerce Department's website.

And while the revision adopts a definition for "scientific integrity" that is similar to the previous version, it no longer says that "protection from inappropriate influence" is among the "hallmarks of scientific integrity."
