dc statehood is non-negotiable after trump's actions in his second term. republicans despise the people of the city that hosts them, and there is little reason to think that, now that the seal is broken on treating them as an occupied population, a next republican president will be more restrained

Social media companies need to be explicitly pressured into not allowing any images of the execution on their services. They have the content recognition systems to block it. If they allow it, it's an abdication of any responsibility to their users. There will be children that see it.

Took me almost 15yrs to even remember. Your brain tries to protect you by repressing the trauma. It’s not simply “this happened to me” it’s much more like “wait, this happened to me??” It’s 1000x worse when it’s at the hands of family, church, teacher, or friend.

Our brain's immediate goal is to keep us alive. This is a survival mechanism to get us out alive. Triggered and flashback reactions are the replays to keep up safe in hopes of preventing reoccurences. The fact the law doesn't take this, or the retraumazing of survivors, into account is criminal.

Hiding away, trying to blot it out is a ptsd response. Why oh why won’t people who criticise women understand and empathise with it? But then- the way the USA currently treats injured veterans shows it’s a people largely without sympathy for experiences they never had.

Why parents make great scientists: Because they recognize that "Lauren errors" happen all the time.
There was the incident that became known as “the Lauren error”: One day, her daughter Lauren, then four years old, was playing with the command module simulator at the Instrumentation Lab when she somehow activated a pre-launch program, called P01, while the simulator was in midflight — which crashed the simulator altogether. Hamilton created a program add-on in the technical documentation warning users not to launch P01 during flight.

She also proposed a software fix to prevent the error happening during a real mission, but she was overruled on the grounds that the highly trained astronauts were never going to make that same mistake. Yet during the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, that’s exactly what happened: Jim Lovell inadvertently launched P01 during the flight, causing the on-flight navigational data to vanish. Hamilton and her team were called in to solve the error, and after that her proposed changes were integrated into the program. This was an early example of “defensive” programming, the practice of building software that could anticipate or fix errors on its own.
