Slightly off topic, but I actually got to pet a sturgeon when we went to Shedd Aquarium this summer. Did you know sturgeon actually like being pet (or at least these ones did)? They were swimming over each other to get to our hands. They felt kind of velvety.

Out to breakfast with my husband and the potato pancakes at this place are pancake batter with hash browns mixed in. And I was game at first, but I want different things from my pancakes than I do from my potato pancakes. With every bite my disappointment grows. Applesauce is pretty good though.

For Christmas a few years ago, my mother bought me some Animal Crossing plushies. She also gave me a stack of photographs from when she'd taken these plushies on a day trip to York. My favourite one, by far, is the photo of them posing by the Cholera Burial Ground.

Brightly coloured animal crossing plushies including Cap'n, Rosie, Villager and Bunny, are placed carefully on the ground round an official heritage sign that reads "Cholera Burial ground".

Look, I’m gonna break it to you, it’s a real shame you’re hearing or reading alt text and not seeing this incredible frog. It’s just… imagine a pancake, slightly burned in an intricate kind of pattern on top. Now puff it up like it’s some kind of incredible dumpling. Now put some legs evenly spaced around the edges, with stubby digits. And put some little bronze eyes in there for good measure. Now imagine that the pancake is deeply nonplussed, as is plain to see across its very flat face. That is what this frog looks like. It is perhaps one of evolution’s greatest achievements.
