Indeed, @omeuxeito.bsky.social, that's how we'll get rid of for-profit publishers. Because TOCSS is diamond-open-access, free-to-read, free-to-publish and at the same time has a terrific team of editors (including Saúl) that will take care of making it the most relevant journal on complex systems

We complain, rightly, about the scientific publishing system. Supporting credible, community-led alternatives is one concrete thing we can do. If you work on complex systems, broadly defined, keep an eye on TOCSS. Very glad to be joining its editorial team.

We will not understand antimicrobial resistance by studying genes, cells, or populations in isolation. Our new mini-review argues for frameworks that connect these scales: From cells to populations: Multi-scale quantitative approaches to antimicrobial resistance www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Figure 1 of the paper. Multi-scale quantitative approaches to antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Population-level models (left) address (a) dose optimization, (b) sequential and combination therapies exploiting collateral sensitivity, (c) community effects on drug response, and (d) global epistasis. Cellular-level models (right) describe (e) resource allocation among ribosomal, metabolic, and stress sectors and (f–h) non-linear physiological transitions producing bistability and switches between susceptible and tolerant states. Both levels combine modeling with controlled experiments; they differ in biological organization rather than method.

A reminder for us living in countries with universal health care: if it is destroyed, it will be a net loss for ALL of us. If you think that your private insurance is great and you don't need to pay taxes for a system you don't use, just wait until private insurers don't have to compete the public.

I find the continued angry reactions to this - that I am 'normalizing' or 'naturalizing' fascism - unsurprising but also very silly. What is gained by pretending a (bad, evil) political movement that bubbles foully up, unbidden, in almost every democracy doesn't actually appeal to people?
