Great news from Wales — the Senedd has voted to continue Minimum Unit Pricing and raise it to 65p, aligning with Scotland and strengthening action on alcohol harm. A really positive step that will help prevent alcohol‑related cancers and save lives. www.gov.wales/senedd-passe...

Great to be at @thekingsfund.bsky.social #KFPrevention conference. So many common barriers to prevention that replicate from the national ➡️ regional ➡️ local level (budget, short-termism, fragmentation, firefighting). But a buzz to get to the solutions & firmly shift from treatment to prevention.

Local govt ends up being an area that comes out better than some during the SR: Average annual increase in spending power of 2.6% per year in real terms between 25/25 and 28/29 Will leave spending power 2.7% lower in real terms than in 2010/11 and 15.9% lower when accounting for population growth

The 2023/24 #HPV vaccine data for England sadly shows that coverage is still well below pre-pandemic levels. More needs to be done to increase coverage rates. Research, incl by @cancerresearchuk.org, has found strong evidence that the HPV vaccine prevents cervical cancer. www.gov.uk/government/n...

Important point, this. We would, in an ideal world, be able to consider the full distributional impacts of both a tax change and the associated change in public spending when analysing policy. The trouble is that modelling the distributional impact of public service spending is painfully difficult.
