In general, any “but they’re such a small part of the U.S. population” argument is dumb, not just on minority rights principles, but on like, “how numbers work” principles. One percent of the U.S. pop is still 3.4 million people. A half a percent is still more than the pop of at least 10 states.

People love to bring up that trans people are a small percentage of the population as justification for ignoring them. Best estimates (as of a few years ago) put the percentage of the U.S. population that is trans at around 0.6-0.7%. Which is about the % of the population that lives in New Mexico.
