I am still a bit speechless but my main PhD project is finally out in Science Advances. It was a long process, but I am so happy with the final results! Massive thanks to everyone involved, especially my co-authors and everyone involved in sampling! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Stability in flexibility: Shifting alliances stabilize the symbioses of marine animals over 150 million years
Many animals benefit from microbial symbionts that aid digestion, supply essential nutrients, or provide defense. When this dependence becomes obligate, as in gutless marine oligochaetes that have los...

It’s fantastic to see this paper out! I still remember the first meeting in which Jonas told me about the project and we discussed some early analyses. Very happy that I could contribute some of my expertise and I very much enjoyed seeing the project grow into its final version.

New in @natgenet.nature.com: a moving obituary for Peer. Francesca Ciccarelli, Jan Korbel & Christian von Mering reflect on his scientific vision, from protein domains and genome evolution to metagenomics, and on his generosity as a mentor and friend to so many. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

It’s exciting to see converging evidence across systems! 😀 Alongside the new work on gutless worms, our study shows that organosulfur cycling is also essential in lucinid holobionts. Lucinid host provides DMSP to its symbionts, sulphur-oxidising Thiodiazotropha and, a new member, Endozoicomonas.

One of the chapters of my PhD thesis made it into a preprint last night. We found a widespread association of placozoans with Rickettsiales symbionts across host species and environments. Happy to hear your thoughts on it 🧬
