Interesting metaphor b/c, as vegetarian, I've long had a problem of ordering a cheese sandwich from a deli and end up with a thick, inedible slab of cheese. Six slices of Swiss is Too Much. Now I wonder if my aversion is a ND thing: I can manage two self-care filters; all six is just overwhelming.

Episode Three Hundred Thirty Nine: Squid Man XI. ...in which we misnomen it. #latentoats

The strip is tinted in (natural drawing paper) beige with black ink lines.

The four panels depict a repeated scene of a creature suggesting a squid (floating to the left and holding out ineffective arms and dangling feet, ten tentacles floating off the left edge of the panel, a single large eye staring out at nothing). Standing to the right of this ‘Squid Man’ is a human man, sketched in a short sleeve button down collared shirt, and slacks. His hair is slightly messy and patchy, and parted on the right. In each frame he gestures with his right hand as he speaks, sometimes reaching out, sometimes putting his hand on his head, sometimes putting both hands behind his back.

In the first panel the man says, “Searing memories of inadvertently misdefining words.”

In the second panel the man says, “Yet now we celebrate malapropism at the highest levels.”

I love Bullitt & esp. an incidental scene where he's coming off an all-nighter and stops on the corner to scoop up two of each frozen dinner. Tiny thing, but frozen meals were only around for a decade at this point & they represented a changing social fabric. That char. was alone & outside society.

There is no traditional narrative to speak of in this one, rather it is a depiction of an Alexander Calder-looking mobile with heavy support arcs and large counterweights that are thin and flat and suggesting of a shape of lily pads. From left to right the mobile elements appear to be in the distance on the left (bunched, less clearly defined, clustered in the upper quadrant of the frame) and closer on the right (a single arm and counterweight, near the bottom of the frame).

Each panel shows a segment of the mobile so that all together the image suggests a complete mobile sculpture as it might be seen in motion, and each panel is rendered in an slightly different syle. The first panel shows more clustered, perhaps distant limbs in a 'sketchy' manner. The second panel shows shading near the top of the frame using a halftone pattern. The third panel is simple, clean lines with an empty background, and the leaves are rendered as thin lines and unshaded within their body. The fourth panel shows one 'leaf' at the end an arm, larger and suggesting this is the closest part of the sculpture to the viewer. The leaf is filled in with ink, and the background is stippled with a growing darkness near the top of the frame.
