Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

Yesterday was Apache Trout Day! It's been two years since my hometown salmonid became the first sport fish to be delisted from the Endangered Species Act due to recovery. I have had the privilege to work on multiple restoration projects for "golden natives", and I hope their recovery continues! 🐟 🌎

Happy Apache Trout Day to those who celebrate! Sept 5 was declared Apache Trout Day in Arizona to celebrate the delisting of this beautiful fish, the first sport fish and first salmonid to be removed from ESA listing. These fish only exist because of the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
Picture of a large Apache Trout. This fish is unique because of its green yellow body and black speckling.

Sometimes society at large rejects certain ideas because they’ve been thoroughly shown to be wrong and also because they suck and the people who espouse them suck and when someone comes around arguing those ideas should be part of some edgy modern debate we can and should shun them and move on.

Data centers already consumed 22% of Nevada’s electricity in 2024, and climb to 35% by 2030. Twelve data center projects in Northern Nevada alone could drive 5,900 megawatts of new demand by 2033. That’s the system that feeds Lake Tahoe getting systematically redirected toward server farms.
