missing from this argument is the fact that Williams is an extraordinarily rich college with students who are overall very well-prepared for college—essentially none of this is generalizable even to a flagship university, much less any other higher education institution

1. Backing into empty space is better than backing into occupied space. 2. You are backing into traffic either way. 3. Backing in takes longer & is less precise, greatly increasing interference with other drivers & parked cars. 4. You are not as good at it as you think. 5. We live in a society.

pressure campaigns seem endless and all-encompassing when it starts. that’s the point of them! whether for good or bad things, the actual energy that goes into them tends to peak and then fade pretty quickly because it’s a call to do a specific, simple, boring action (email/comment/call/rate)

When my (6 year old) son lost his first tooth in the spring, I left $10 under his pillow. In the morning, my (8 year old) daughter woke him up screaming "look, look, the tooth fairy left you a dollar!" (She had swapped them out thinking that nobody would notice since only the tooth fairy knew)
