Michelle, Manchester in 2019 from the Outsiders project. She became homeless at 13, having been abused as a child, and used to sleep in the bin sheds on the Offerton Estate in Stockport. She told me she felt safer sleeping rough as a child than she did at home.

From Aberdeen to Lambeth, Newcastle-under-Lyme to Holborn & St Pancras, Reform contested five by-elections yesterday. 💪 They lost all five… 😬 Five contests. Five defeats. That’s eleven out of eleven lost in a fortnight. Reform are not inevitable. 😉 Have a great weekend! #ReformLose

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

I think the whole society is infused with a desire for vengeance. The ultra Protestant foundations of its society are possibly another factor. I absolutely agree that they are inured to extreme violence.

If you look at the development of the area a lot of it is not 19th or early 20th century but a bit later and would have been largely rural so must have felt like an escape from Upperthorpe, Kelham Island and even Hillsborough. The road out to Lodge Moor Hospital would have been through fields too.

A west of Ireland #painting "Burren Walls" came out of several trips to the karst landscape of County Clare where I was entranced by its fields of stone. And I do like a wall. #SpéirGhorm #ArtYear
Landscape format in acrylics on canvas. On flat land of limestone karst rendered in colours of lilac, pale blue and grey, with black crevices and white highlights, is a stone wall running horizontally across the full width of the painting, with the distinctive burren stones, narrow and slanted, with crevices running lengthways. In the distance is another wall running across the full width of the painting, and distant dark lines indicate more further back before the horizon of a muted blue low tree-line with a couple of buildings dotted in among them. Further back on the left are paler blue trees or hills in the distance. There is a small tree with a leaning straight thin almost white trunk midway back on the right, with a dense small clump of dark olive foliage leaning to the right and a green bush around its base. Some flecks of light olive flora litter the fields of stone. Sky is white fluffy clouds on pale blue. Signed bottom right in dark blue, Liam Daly

Biochemist Dr. Florence Seibert developed the Purified Protein Derivative in the 1930s that standardized tuberculosis testing worldwide by 1952. Before her work, TB skin tests were inconsistent/unreliable.It remains the basis for the TB skin test used today. Born #OTD in 1897. #WomenInSTEM
A vintage black-and-white studio portrait features biochemist Dr. Florence Seibert (1900–1991), famed for developing the Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) that standardized tuberculosis testing worldwide. Captured from the chest up, she poses in a three-quarter turn while looking directly at the camera with a subtle, intelligent smile, establishing a serene, professional, and historically significant mood. Her dark hair is styled in a classic 1920s short bob featuring prominent finger waves framing her forehead. She wears delicate, rimless spectacles and a light-colored blouse designed with a prominent collar and soft ruffled detailing along the edges. The composition employs soft-focus lighting typical of early 20th-century photography, casting gentle highlights across her face against a smooth, dark, non-descript studio backdrop. In the bottom right corner, a faint, embossed photographer's stamp adds an authentic period touch to this archival image celebrating a foundational figure in medicine.

In 1534, antiquary John Leland visited Sheriff Hutton Castle and was struck by its grandeur, declaring that he had seen “no house in the north so much like the palace of a prince.” Built in the late 14th century by John Neville, Lord of Raby, the castle was one of the great strongholds in the north
Sheriff Hutton castle was built in the 14th century, it served as a royal residence for monarchs including Richard III and Henry VIII, as well as the headquarters for the Council of the North.
