Here is an entirely reasonable but strikingly unfashionable scenario. The polls *understate* potential rejoin support because many people (not unreasonably) think the whole process will be a sort of re-run of 2026-2029.

As for UK influence in the world, having been fortunate enough to attend various events internationally in recent months, it isuch diminished compared to 2016. Something I hope to write up soon. Conservative plans to leave the ECHR would reduce it further.

UK trade policy failed in large part under the guidance of those quoted in this article, and worse still none of them appeared to learn anything from it, so really not a strong counter to movement towards the EU. www.politico.eu/article/tori...

So this is completely right. Saying the polls will move is like saying water is wet. Less obvious is in which direction? The assumption is that the polls overestimate support for rejoining. It’s at least worth considering whether they underestimate support…

These aren't scandals. They're features. The system exists to reward political loyalty and donor generosity with titles that sound like public recognition. The honour is the cover story. One way or the other, a financial transaction is almost always the point. #r4today

Yup. Political honours are utterly worthless, and do not, in any way, reflect the delivery of public service above and beyond. They reflect proximity to power, party donations, and prime ministerial patronage. That's it. That's always been it. 🧵 #r4today
