I would not say it sucks ass as a film! It's fascinating as a Sorkin text, the first one where you can feel him questioning whether institutions are enough to save us. And the actors are all fun! I just wish someone else had directed it because I think it's overlong and I don't vibe with the end

Yeah I understand liking it as an adaptation choice! But I'm much more interested in the movie as a reflection of intra-left tensions, so that scene doesn't resolve what I'm watching it for. Whereas having Dellinger derail the trial to read US *and* Vietnamese deaths does hit that idea

See I don't really like that scene. I think JGL's bit in it is kinda hammy, and I'm also annoyed by the inaccuracy of it (a different guy did that, in the middle of the trial rather than at the end)

Charlie Wilson is there entirely on the strength of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Malice is trashy fun! There's stuff I like in Chicago 7 but it is looooong. I'm still net positive on it though! Social Reckoning is the only one you'd have to really convince me to sit down and watch

whenever trump's DOJ has to go in front of a judge to get yelled at, every lawyer on here is like "omg i've NEVER seen a judge this mad, if a judge yelled at me like this i'd immediately commit seppeku," and then at the end of the hearing the judge is like "ok no sanctions just don't do it again"
