🔴 NEW: Citing sources in direct contact with military planners, Jeremy Scahill told Democracy Now the U.S. is weighing two military scenarios for Iran: a “Libya scenario,” using U.S. airpower for regime change and allowing chaos and civil war to follow, or a “Venezuela scenario,” seeking to decapitate Iran’s leadership and make deals with lower echelons within the Iranian state.

Scahill also discussed how Trump, who is amassing major naval and air power in striking distance, including the USS Gerald Ford joining the USS Abraham Lincoln, is pressing Iran toward sweeping concessions on its missile program and regional alliances.

Iranian officials are signaling retaliation would no longer be calibrated, with tens of thousands of U.S. troops in the region potentially within range.

Beyond “a handful of members of Congress, including Ro Khanna, who has teamed up with Thomas Massie to push for a [Iran] war powers resolution vote,” there has been “very little said publicly by Democrats against this,” Ryan Grim said on Breaking Points.

Grim describes the “cold logic” inside parts of the Democratic caucus: “There are many Senate Democrats who believe that Iran needs to be dealt with militarily… But they also understand that this would be catastrophic politically for Democrats… And so they would like Trump to carry it out for them… From the perspective of these Democrats, it is a win-win.”

He adds that this reasoning “doesn’t really have any holes in it, other than that it’s evil… and could lead to untold lives being lost.”

The War Powers Resolution from Reps.
@RoKhanna
 and
@RepThomasMassie
 would force a vote next week on limiting U.S. involvement in hostilities against Iran.

A full report is coming soon from Drop Site, including details on a call with a top foreign policy aide.

What is violence? Is it tossing a tear gas canister back to the mercenaries who shot it at you? Is it blowing a whistle at bounty hunters who are trying to abduct someone? Perhaps, rather than asking whether an action is "violent," we should ask— Does it perpetrate oppression? Or interrupt it?
