According to the FT, Orr is acting as a live-in-landlord-cum-cult-leader to Cambridge students including those under his own supervision, whilst receiving formal complaints about his behaviour, and boasting publicly how the university is a recruiting ground for the party he might be doing crime for
in North Cambridge, and a daughter. The
outbuildings and at least two other flats on the same road, which are owned by the family,
are home to a select group of postgraduate students from a range of faculties including
divinity. In a podcast interview in December 2024, Orr described having “10 students living
with us. They’re mainly PhD students or postdoctoral fellows.” He explained that they
always gather for Sunday lunch and often for dinner. “That’s amazingly stimulating,” he
said. “They’re . . . the cream of their generation in their respective subjects.”
The residents pay rent and do chores. Helen has fashioned a small chapel from a shipping
container, in which she holds morning prayers. The housing of students raises potential conflicts of interest. Over the past academic year, there were three divinity scholars lodging at the Orrs’ community, according to several
people familiar with the living arrangements. One is a postgraduate student who is directly
supervised by Orr. Cambridge’s staff and student relationship policy stipulated that its
employees are “strongly discouraged” from entering into close personal relationships with
students. Any relationship which involves “any form of dependence, whether emotional,
practical, financial or otherwise”, must be declared.Among the complaints upheld by the investigator are that Orr allegedly made belittling
remarks to the student, and had demanded an “excessive” and “unreasonable” amount of
written work in an effort to refine a thesis proposal. The report also criticised “at worst
inappropriate and at best thoughtless comments made [by Orr] in the equally
inappropriate context of [Orr’s] own home”. This was in reference to a dinner that the
student, who comes from a Christian, conservative background, had attended at Orr’s
house. While the society was established long before Orr had any formal role in Reform, it has
taken on new significance as his political activities gathered pace. Orr has described
Cambridge as a useful recruiting ground for Reform, boasting last autumn in an interview
with The Telegraph that he had met “hundreds” of highly able students he thought would
make suitable allies. He has also, according to The Spectator magazine, been tasked by the
party with “building a pipeline” to bring talent to staff a future Reform administration.

Sharing from a friend, a passage from the Leveson Inquiry regarding the British actor Denholm Elliott, who died of AIDS in 1992. Three years after her death, the News of the World journalist Paul McMullan did the following to his daughter—neither a celebrity nor even someone of public interest.
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
The Inquiry brought up the case of Denholm Elliott's daughter -
PAUL McMULLAN:
Oh, yeah -
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
- which is one case that you truly do regret.
PAUL McMULLAN:
I do, yeah. After Denholm died, she hit rock bottom, was allegedly doing methadone. And although she had, you know, the half-million-pound flat that Denholm had bought her, she didn't have any money to get her ten-pound bag in the morning. So she'd get up and go begging at the tube station.
Here was a young girl crying out to be helped, and she met a police officer who didn't help her but rang up the News of the World and asked for money because he couldn't believe that this is the same girl who'd walked down the red carpet behind Eddie Murphy with Denholm Elliott, you know.BROOKE GLADSTONE:
And you offered her 50 pounds -
PAUL MCMULLAN:
Yeah.
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
- if she would come to your place and have sex. So you led her into prostitution, which she wasn't in that space for.
PAUL McMULLAN:
No, indeed. But she was in such a bad place that someone offering her 50 pounds for sex. I mean, that's five bags.BROOKE GLADSTONE:
So how do you justify that? Yes, she was a drug addict, yes, she was begging. Why push her that extra step? Why take pictures of her topless?
PAUL McMULLAN:
I was keen. It was in my first year. I wanted to impress Piers Morgan, who was my boss at the time, and just wanted to say, not only have I caught this girl begging, but l've got pictures of her topless and I've got her offering me sex for 50 quid. How great am I?
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
This is a pretty dehumanizing enterprise, not just for Jennifer Elliott, but for you, yourself.
PAUL McMULLAN:
Yeah, that's why I feel terrible about it, not just 'cause she killed herself afterwards, but I, I actually liked her as a person.

Emmie Chang, founder of a startup that Bahn’s firm invests in which provides sales-data intelligence, uses AI to transcribe every conversation she can.

At a work conference in Albuquerque, N.M., in May, Chang wore a small pin with a red light indicating it was recording. Someone who worked at the conference eventually approached Chang and told her the device was making people uncomfortable. She found the request to stop recording triggering.

“It’s my thing,” she says. “I’m not attributing who said what. It’s for my general knowledge.”

Chang has also taken to recording most of her first dates, usually with Granola. She puts her phone out on the table or her chair and then once the date is through, she has the feed automatically sent to Anthropic’s Claude to report back on how she did.

Also worth noting that when C18 envisioned their separatist Aryan Homeland in the '90s, they were inspired by Belfast's Republican and Loyalist enclaves. Those communities whose political and economic prospects had been wracked, for decades, by murderous, bloody violence. That was their utopia.
It turns out that one of the central figures in Combat 18 was a former Benedictine monk who had previously dabbled in Satanism, and wanted to establish a kind of white-only farming commune in rural Essex. Another was a football hooligan who Nick says sounded keen on transforming a Chelmsford council estate into a separatist state. He was inspired by Northern Irish paramilitaries who’d managed to gain effective control of areas of Belfast. I was intrigued by the concept of Britain’s most prominent neo-Nazi group planning to turn sections of Essex into an Aryan homeland, and got back in touch with Nick for a more in-depth interview. What was the deal with their plan for an Aryan homeland?
C18 had established itself as a stewarding force to the BNP, but after violence against many other far-right activists, it had been proscribed by the BNP leadership. The gang ran a music business, Blood & Honour, which was controlled by Paul “Charlie” Sargent, a thug with a history of football hooliganism. C18 was telling supporters, both here and abroad, that it was going to create an Aryan homeland out in Essex, a place where “our people” could follow their racial dreams.

Those dreams seemed to vary wildly depending on who you talked to, despite the fact that C18 was attempting to raise money for this homeland from all and sundry. Charlie and his brother Steve talked about some sort of paramilitary-style, street-based system, taking over various estates in parts of the county. They often referred to Northern Ireland as their inspiration, and there have been many links revealed over the years between far-right and Loyalist movements. Meanwhile, their ideological backer, David Myatt, an ex-Benedictine monk with a long-involvement in far-right movements who was alleged to have been a Satanist and later converted to Islam, talked in fantastical terms about a communal back-to-the-land existence, replete with “racial warriors”, slaves, and other elements.

One of the differences between C18 & BNP provoking and exploiting the Oldham Riots in 2001 vs. Musk, Robinson & Farage doing the same thing today is that back then it was still widely agreed in politics and the press that the far-right were ignorant two-bit thugs beneath contempt. Not so today.
