the article mentions GS estimating hyperscalers will need to generate $300 b to offset CapEx and $1 tr to generate "meaningful profits" not sure how they define that, but say it amounts to a 25% EBIT margin, that would imply addtl OpEx of $450 b or 45% of every dollar of revenue that seems high(?)

yeah, this is a tough spot, bc while I generally try to avoid commentary on other countries' politics/elections, I also despise Le Pen/RN and ofc there's a kind of intersectionality within global right-wing movements (particularly in a country as influential as France) anyway, this isn't good

"So much has been written of the evil effects of opium smoking, that the paper of Surgeon-General Sir Wm. Moore1 comes somewhat in the nature of a surprise.

Opium smoking is not to be compared with opium eating. The opium is first prepared in such a manner as to deprive it of much of the narcotine. This prepared opium or "chaudul" is put into the pipe and brought into the flame of a small lamp, and the effect of the combustion is to destroy much of the active principle of the drug. Some of the morphia is sublimed and is deposited in the stem of the pipe. Sir George Birdwood concludes that nothing passes from deflagrating chaudul pill into the lungs but the volatile resinous constituents of the opium. Brereton says opium smoking is not only innocuous, but positively beneficial to the system. It is a complete preservative against drunkenness."

I love how this illustrates the sheer ubiquity of some of the things we consider very intimately familiar. The last common ancestor between us and octopuses was likely a bilateralian worm ~600 mya in the Precambrian Ediacaran period, meaning dreaming probably extends back at least that far!
