Claude Code explaining why it changed three files.

I'm a little late, but I really enjoyed this year's Freiburg edition of @smashingconf.com. A big thank you to everyone involved; the team and organization were fantastic, and I feel really thankful for having gotten to meet so many amazing humans 😍 Can't wait for next year!

Hendrik's work on this has been amazing. I'm hosting my own instance and the setup was literally "run it". Incredibly well done!

I recently saw a friend set up their atproto account and realized how confusing the whole system is. I wish atproto had a much better cross-app login experience. Is there any work being done to unify/improve the UI/UX of the login flow? I think I recall seeing some ideas but I can't find them.

The image is of a four panel comic.
Panel one shows a giraffe tripping on a rock. The giraffe says “woop” as it stumbles.
Panel two zooms in on the giraffe’s face. The giraffe is sweating in embarrassment. We see a thought bubble above the giraffe. The text within the thought bubble reads, “that was embarrassing.”
The third panel shows the giraffe closing its eyes and munching on leaves reassuringly. The thought bubble above the giraffe reads, “but no one will remember.”
The fourth and final panel pans to an elephant staring at the giraffe from behind some bushes.

I'm working on my website and need some icons! Do I know anybody (or someone who knows somebody) who can create cute cartoon-artsy / "kawaii style" icons? (think a laptop, book, etc) and has availability? Would love some recommendations 😊

Two weeks ago I wrote about my development workflow for Chatto, and feedback has been fantastic. I'm particularly happy that it even made some of my AI hating friends go "okay, that's actually quite cool". We need to write more about our actual work, and in less of a preachy AI-salesperson voice.

I said it there but want to share: For most projects and people, atproto is an implementation detail, not a feature. If we as a community want widespread adoption of our tech, we need to move away from the jargon and offer something for non-technical folks.

So, I built a small app that tracks all Hacker News submissions over time, and allows you to set up custom triggers and basically curate your own daily summary. After using it for a few weeks, I am not sure what to make of it. Would this be interesting to anyone else? Happy to invite you to it :)

A thing I want to point out about this is that I think it's a great use case for LLMs. It's a small-ish thing, one off, just for myself. Previously I would have thought about it but never done it. Now it only takes a few minutes. As bad as AI is in many cases, there are genuinely good use cases.

Seeing this month's "who is hiring" post on HN, I had a fun idea to visualize the data points over the years as I expected them to be a nice visualization of the current market in tech. Earlier this year was the first month ever in which less people posted jobs than wanted to be hired 🫠
A graph showing the relation between job-seeker posts and job posts on HN per month since 2014 (seeking divided by offering). The ratio between seekers and offers was about 0.4ish for a few years, briefly peaked to about 0.9 in 2020 before dropping back down, and sharpy started rising again in 2023, with the highest ever ratio of about 1.2 last month. The graph shows two lines, one for offers and one for seekers. Job postings have noticably gone down and seekers up, with the lines crossing for the first time ever this year (more seekers than offers).

Working on creating a demo visualisation of my Kubernetes cluster that runs in the browser. Just got network visualisation working. Each image is its own actual bit of running code using a fetch-like API to talk to other pods, and the network emits events when this happens.

Recent status: watching someone that works at Zoom take a past due security training about not taking meetings in public spaces while he was on a train going between Copenhagen and Stockholm. He completed his training then had a sales meeting about volume discounts.
A photo of a Dell laptop screen taken between two train seats. The screen has a training video with the text "You never know who's sitting next to you" showing on it. The picture taker is sitting behind the person taking the training, so it's OK.

Question for the atproto folks on here: Can it even support business logic like "editing a post, but only for 30 minutes"? It looks as if that could only be done on an app level, so users would always be able to modify data on their PDS. Seems like a big limitation to be aware of?
