25 years ago today, George W. Bush signed the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force into law. Barbara Lee was the only member of Congress to vote against it, warning it would be a blank check for forever wars. History has proven her lonely and courageous vote right.

This very evening, in Columbia Heights, HSI and local police kidnapped another of our neighbors. They were all remarkably relaxed. Over the winter, they were rampaging; now they are quiet and confident. We could not stop them. 19/x

Didn't get a chance to see #mnstatefair crop art or just want to see it again? I took 350+ photos and stitched them together to create a Gaussian splat of the room, then spent several hours tagging most of the art so you could click on it and learn more. Check it out: cropart.mapki.com

Radars across the eastern half of the U.S. States exploded with reflectivity ~22 hrs ago. Most is the result of birds with current estimates now over half a BILLION actively in flight. This is part of the annual fall migration southward and appears to be the busiest night of the season underway.

Nice to see the temporary Flock cameras set up around the #mnstatefair. I'm sure all the people driving near the fair feel safer.

A stillborn birth. Limited emergency access. The homeless encampment at Randolph Avenue tripled from 40-60 people to at least 140 people overnight, and some say over 200. A month later, no one is calling the clearing of the Pig's Eye encampment a success story. www.twincities.com/2026/09/02/s...

Transit has always been the best way to get to the Minnesota State Fair! From 1891 to 1952 a complex streetcar network ran in and out of the fairgrounds bringing thousands of visitors every day. You can still see the historic arch that trolleys would pass under.

I truly wish city leaders and residents would understand the we have a housing crisis. Raiding camps won't solve that. But we also have a proud history of houselessness. Our city was founded by an encampment. Places like Swede Hollow were shantytowns for most of our history--more than a century.

This is one of the best articulations I've seen from a politician about addressing homelessness humanely at the local level. This is key! Take note Minneapolis!
Relatedly, it's imperative that the city and our partners have a comprehensive plan in place to track the individuals living in the encampments following the closures. Time and again, I have heard from service providers that in order to help their clients get into stable housing, in order to keep people alive, in order to provide the support that we know they need, the providers have to know where their clients are. Providers who have experienced recent encampment closures in Minneapolis describe losing their clients for months at a time, setting back months or even years of progress; spending more time searching for clients than providing needed medical care or other services; and losing people for good, never knowing what happened to them.
This serves no one, least of all those most in need of our support.

It's frustrating to hear about stuff like this because St. Paul (really, any city) could decide to close every other residential street tonight with minimal interruption to people in cars while making every other person happier and safer. But we just ... don't?

nws says that this should fizzle out as it nears the cities. the main risk will be damaging wind at that point. it’s all warmed to 60mph rn which is the minimum for severe thunderstorms, hail is quarter sized but they seem to think that will dissipate.
