This evening there was a Red-Legged Partridge strutting around on our neighbour's roof in central Exeter, Devon. Seems a bit odd for one of those to turn up? Slightly blurry photos attached. #birds

I read about an owl sanctuary that took in an young injured male owl and after it was released it would drop by semi-regularly with mice and shrews for the owls being cared for there

Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler at an owl sanctuary and he told me that the wild owls who lived near the sanctuary worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.
An owl handler I met (although not the one in my anecdote) with his beautiful owl.

Someone on Threads noticed you can type any random sentence into Google, then add “meaning” afterwards, and you’ll get an AI explanation of a famous idiom or phrase you just made up. Here is mine

• Al Overview
The idiom "you can't lick a badger twice" means you can't trick or deceive someone a second time after they've been tricked once. It's a warning that if someone has already been deceived, they are unlikely to fall for the same trick again.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
• Licking: "Licking" in this context means to trick or deceive someone.
• Badger: The badger is a wild animal, and the phrase likely originates from the historical sport of badger baiting where dogs were used to harass

Useful map within this article enabled me to confirm the blindingly obvious that St Leonards is Exeter's smoke hotpot. Some winter nights, it can be like stepping out into a Dickensian novel in my street. We have clean air legislation for a reason, it is time to strengthen and enforce it.
Screenshot taken from a map that can be interrogated to show an estimation of the number of woodburners at Council ward level. The pop-out dialogue says "We estimate that there are 236.3 wood burning heat sources per km2 in Newtown and St Leonard's, and 16.9% of houses have a wood burner".

Springtime in Exeter (Devon, UK), and the waiting game now starts for the solitary bees in my garden. It has been a fairly cold start to the year, so it could be another 3-4 weeks. I have a bit of an accommodation issue if they all hatch.
A photo showing the 5 bee boxes on my fence. The biggest of the bee boxes in my garden. Is home made and has probably about 500 tubes in it. Not all will be viable nests, as there were some rows that failed last year.Three shop bought bee boxes. A couple are quite old, and it remains to be seen how successful they will be this year.

It's hard to believe this is happening. The Dartington Trust, here in South Devon, is behaving like Donald Trump: it seems to have no conception of the value it is destroying. This is its latest act of mindless vandalism. What the hell is going on? www.agroforestry.co.uk/save-darting...
