The only reason this is necessary is a small group of extremists have painted themselves as representing all Protestants in the North. And the media, particularly in the Republic, has mostly let them get away with it.

One Irish person was refused citizenship recently over the language test after a six-year process despite doing the whole thing in Swedish. The same person teaches at university level in Swedish, and has published academic texts in the language.

Once again it needs to be stressed that this is something happening across the board in Irish immigration- changes in practice leading to refusals that would not have occurred in previous years. We are in a very dark time for the rights of people migrating to Ireland and their families.

I sometimes think about the time when someone I love very much and who loves me very much was so discomfited by the fact that I had taken out and put my emergency meds in their orange pill box next to me at a party. "Don't do that," she said. "It calls attention to it (my epilepsy."

It is really exhausting to be an Irish disabled person. It feels like the entire island is immune to ever talking about us as full people who deserve rights and full lives. But it is made much easier by having a @suzybie.bsky.social to cut through the crap.

Across the political divide do WM govts specifically look for people who know nothing about NI and are tone death to its history to hold the position of SoS? Because they’re amazingly consistent if they aren’t trying.

Stopped to talk to a resident for a minute who was alone in her home who was obviously massively nervous about petrol bombs getting lobbed right outside her house. With any luck the landrovers will draw any aggro away.

I've been advised to keep to one side of the road and move quick to reach the station as petrol bombs had been thrown at landrovers parked along the road here. Small fire still smouldering in the park and landrovers pulling further back.

I am not convinced the protest in Garvaghy would be considered illegal if challenged, but even if it we're, the idea that the most senior nationalist politician in the North should have been anywhere other than standing with residents is ludicrous.

As far as I'm aware there is nothing either in the PC structure or determination document that says "if obstructed you should sit on a hill for a few days and try to sneak down at 4am". Cause that would be ridiculous and draw out the risk of disorder. As it has done.

Also on a point of "lawful": The date for the parade has passed. They now need to re-apply to reschedule it. They can try and pursue whatever legal actions they want over yesterday's being blocked but it's monday now and if they want to march again "lawfully" they need to submit an 11/1 form.

Just to fully underline how spiteful this shit is for those unaware: On the left is the route the Orange Order have been ordered to take for the past 3 decades without trouble. On the right is the route that has brought hundreds of cops to Drumcree. The only motivation is sectarian antagonism.

Someone should tell Bryant there already was a compromise. It was the alternate route that's been taken for nearly 30 years and has worked pretty well despite the regular antagonising applications from Portadown Orange District LOL 1 to parade down Garvaghy Road where they're not wanted.

For people of my age (old) and my background (CNR) who grew up in NI during the 90s, Drumcree was the nadir of community relation & differences in our perceptions of ‘rights’. We just could not conceive how a group of snarling, angry men thought their ‘right to march’ surpassed our ‘right to exist’.

We absolutly need accountability from the PSNI on this. It will be hard given that the Executive surviving the week is about as likely as me having a successful dance career but Boutcher needs to be hauled in front of someone to explain the low risk assessment for an orange march on Garvaghy Road.

Peelers response to the Garvaghy road residents would be shameful regardless but it is rage inducing given failures around the Belfast pograms & a complete police failure to respond to far right violence across Ireland and Britain. But this "low risk" parade seems to have all the police resources.

It was caused by them being caught issuing rejections on autopilot so a legal action forced them to do a full assesment. Some thick as pigshit Peeler seemed to advise them the risk of disorder wasn't significant. And so here we go.

The DUP and SF have been in a staring contest over who will collapse stormont first and I don't see how that won't happen when a load of people get battered off the road by the PSNI so 35 pricks, who've been using an alternative route for 28 years, can march down a road full of taigs.

Arriving late to the "new flag for Ireland" debate to say given a UI at the moment is technically a hypothetical surely the more practical discussion is what are Unionists and Britain doing to make sure the Irish feel welcome in the UK in other news 200 cops are coming from Scotland to Drumcree
