An excellent article in "The Local" highlighting the growing number of companies that let you use a car when you need it (similar to the urban scooter and bike schemes). www.thelocal.fr/20260527/aut...

Autopartage: The scheme that helps you get by in France without owning a car
Across both urban and rural France, a rapidly growing network of vehicle hire schemes for locals is making car ownership optional, as journalist Katy Wright explains.

“Only a deliberately uninformed electorate… could believe that Brexit, former prime minister Boris Johnson or Farage could be the solution to their problems” And there you have it. Why we’re here and why we’ll stay stuck here until we learn to act in our best interests, rather than theirs.
Meanwhile, the right wing has spent years denigrating knowledge, education and expertise in favour of feelings, vibes and bogus victimhood. Gove's infamous disdain for "experts" during the Brexit referendum paved the way for a world in which you do not have to explain, account for or even understand your own "opinions" for them to be considered "legitimate" by commentators, politicians and racist grifters.

Speaking of which, there was an under-reported moment at the last rally held by Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (the real name of the man who otherwise calls himself Tommy Robinson) that showed where all this can lead. Other members of the crowd abused a bespectacled woman for, as one put it, having "a right f**king lefty look on her face." They demanded her removal. Yaxley-Lennon's goons obliged.
Two very different politicians nail the real issue here.

In 1952, Nye Bevan, key architect of both the NHS and the welfare state, explained right-wing politics thus:
"How can wealth persuade poverty to use its political freedom to keep wealth in power?"

Today, one answer to Bevan's question trumps all others: deny "poverty" a decent education by persuading "poverty" that it has no value. Only a deliberately uninformed electorate, after all, could believe that Brexit, former prime minister Boris Johnson or Farage could be the solution to their problems.

The two most plausible explanations for this most dangerous move are: 1) Trump plans to sell this extremely valuable information to foreign states and make billions and billions. 2)The US is run by an agent of a foreign country that desperately needs this information.

What change, Mr £5Mill? An even more ruinous Brexit cos you’ve binned the reset and huffed out of the ECHR? More Farage riots on our streets? Mass deportations and ICE-style thug gangs? Removing our rights and protections in a race to the bottom, so your crypto mates can profit? Absolutely not.

International stability and the security of their own countries requires Trump and Putin, and their inner circles, to recognise that the 21st century world isn't the great power playground they thought it was. But neither seems personally or politically capable of doing that.

Trump’s obscene budget.
Last year, while the billionaire class became much richer as the working class struggled to survive, Trump gave a $1 trillion tax break to the 1% and paid for it by throwing 15 million Americans off the health care they desperately need.

This year, while Trump and Netanyahu started a war in Iran, the president wants to increase military spending by $500 billion and pay for that war by reducing funding for childcare, health care, affordable housing and other domestic needs.

This is what Trump’s agenda is all about: making himself and his fellow Oligarchs even richer, while decimating programs that working families, the elderly and the children rely on.

That is an obscene set of priorities. Congress must reject this proposal and pass a budget that works for all of us, not just the 1%.

Trump threatens 10% global tariffs and rails against supreme court justices
President called justices who blocked his tariffs a ‘disgrace to the nation’ while praising three justices who dissented * US politics live – latest updates Donald Trump on Friday railed against the supreme court justices that blocked his use of tariffs, calling the decision a “disgrace to the nation” and claiming he plans to impose even more tariffs under other statutory authorities. “It’s my opinion that the court has been swayed by foreign interests and a political movement that is far smaller than people would ever think,” the president said during remarks from the White House. He cast that influence as social and cultural. “I’m ashamed of certain members of the court. Absolutely ashamed for not having the courage to do what’s right for our country.” Continue reading...
