This afternoon I'm folding paper for Memory Books. People tend to use these as #scrapbooks for anniversaries, family albums, retirements, etc. Oxblood leather has been a popular choice lately, it's such a lovely option for autumn / fall events. More images: boundbyhand.co.uk/collections/...
Bookbinder holds corner of an A4 landscape Memory Book (scrapbook) bound in 'Oxblood' leather with natural grain. A strap in the same colour is fixed to the cover with Tan stitching.Close-up of a bookbinder's hand stitching an oxblood leather Memory Book; we can see inside the first two signatures of the book where the stitches lie. In the background sit the other signatures, along with leather swatches and 4 spools of linen thread in Tan, Green, Orange and Rust. There is also an awl and a Japanese Screw punch.

Japanese, lay-flat or folded? Here's the latest newsletter from the #bookbinding studio: us6.campaign-archive.com?u=9b6e7e0251...
A trio of Japanese stab stitch cotton rag sketchbooks like on a white wood-grained surface, with bookbinding tools (awl, punch and bonefolders) to their left, above which sit three spools of linen thread in navy, turquoise and light blue. Artist ties linen ribbon of a lay-flat 'wabi sabi' style cotton rag sketchbook with exposed spine binding that faces the camera. She is wearing a mustard yellow linen apron and a wooden chair can just be seen in the background.

The planet isn't "dying" of natural causes. Forests don't just disappear. They are logged. Oceans don't just choke. They are polluted. Rivers don't just dry up. They are diverted. This is not a tragedy. It's ecocide. And ecocide should be a crime. #StopEcocide

“Tariffs are a favoured diplomatic tool of President Trump and Reform could face significant legal challenges if it follows suit” (page2) Farage is a desperate, vindictive bullshitter who only appeals to racists with no idea how the world and trade and law actually work. Cos that’s a bit hard.
Farage's tariff plan on migrants

Reform UK would impose tariffs on countries that refuse to accept the return of migrants, under plans expected to be announced this week.

Nigel Farage will outline new policies, including levies on goods and services, that would force countries to agree to deportations.

The party also proposes banning their airlines from British airspace.

The escalation of Reform’s hardline deportations policy comes as the Conservatives embrace a new political strategy designed to recapture voters with a focus on the economy.

Some 20,900 people have crossed the Channel in small boats this year, down about 40 per cent on the same period in 2025, according to official figures. Since 2018, more than 211,000 have made the crossing, of whom about 9,700 had been returned by June.

Reform intends to impose visa bans for people who legally want to visit the UK from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia until the countries agree to take back illegal migrants and foreign criminals, under plans announced in February. The list includes several of the countries with the largest numbers of asylum seekers in the UK in recent years.

Comedian and Trump-hater Cliff Cash shows us how it’s done. Visiting politicians where they work is the correct approach. I love how he’s calm while calling Trump a pedo and lecturing them on not supporting a dying child-rapist. And he’s not afraid of profanity. That’s the fuck how you do it. &:^)

I don’t think I’m the only person who will appreciate this
Triangular diagram labelled The Introvert
Hierarchy of Needs.

Top: Self-actualisation - A completely empty house. An arrow pointing to the house says “Nobody needs anything. Nobody is coming home for hours. Phone on silent.”

The next level is Esteem - Plans getting cancelled. An arrow here says “‘Sorry, we're going to have to rearrange.’ Oh no. That's terrible. I'm devastated.”

Next level: Belonging - One person you actually like. No group chat. No networking. No "let's go round and introduce ourselves." Just one person you can talk absolute shit with.

Fourth level: Safety - An escape route. Own car. End seat. Knowing exactly when the event finishes. A believable reason to leave early.

Bottom of pyramid: Physiological needs - Being left the fuck alone for a bit. Food. Water. Sleep. 45 minutes where nobody speaks to you.

“The question is not whether we can afford to remain within the Convention [ECHR]. It is whether, in an increasingly dangerous world, we can afford not to” Political liars and lightweights, like Badenoch and Farage, must never be allowed to take that risk. www.lawgazette.co.uk/commentary-a...
The Law Society
Gazette

In short, if Britain were to leave the ECHR, it would not be
'taking back control. It would be surrendering influence over the rules and institutions that help keep us safe.
The debate about the ECHR is too often conducted as though it were a choice between national sovereignty and international law. That is a false choice.
The Convention advances British interests because it reflects British values: liberty under law, democratic government and the accountability of power.
Walking away would not make Britain freer. It would make Britain weaker.
