I retired 4 years ago, but I have to keep working in order to pay my bills with little left over. Then the government adds my small amount of earnings to my tiny state pension and taxes it all together. Before the tax threshold freeze I paid no tax and this year I received a tax bill for 2.5 grand.

Absolutely spot on. TV was supposed to entertain and inform. It currently does very little of either. Naked attraction bake off on ice anyone?

It's the same with all shades of politicians. They will not tackle wealth inequality. Most people get rich by exploiting their fellow human beings and the government rewards them by making them even richer at the expense of the poor.

In Luxembourg the average state pension for 40 years of contributions is nearly 4x higher than in the U.K. Far from being unaffordable the UK State pension is a joke, what is unaffordable is the tax evasion which leaves us with so little money to spend.

The rich will be pleased with Burnham's speech today. They have been left completely untouched and nothing has been mentioned about the redistribution of wealth. If a section of the poor need more money, then we just get it from some other section of the poor. That's what I call rearranging poverty.

Shameful. British governments hate old people. We need a pensioner's party or campaign group to put pressure on them to treat pensioner's with the respect they deserve.

There wasn't a social care crisis when local authorities provided the service free of charge. Then Thatcher privatised it and private equity bosses started charging £8000 a month.

Taking money from pensioners to help fund social care is such a backward step. They could have taxed the rich more, increased tax on capital gains and stopped paying billions in interest to banks holding desposits. But, as always, hitting the poor and powerless is the easiest option

The problem with football is that most fans don't care who owns their club as long as their team is winning. Personally, I would stop going if my club was taken over by shady characters who make their money by foul means and are intent on cheating to win.

I've always favoured abolition of the House of Lords. But appointing establishment worthies unelected lawmakers for life and then allowing corporations bidding for huge public contracts to hire them on telephone number salaries is obviously as bent as a nine-bob note.

We need to bring in the sacking and prosecution of politicians who knowingly lie to the public.

The Trump regime is committing the biggest heist in history on the American people.

As a pensioner, I don't mind if Labour does away with the triple lock. So long as they bring pensions up to the same level as the minimum wage. Why should we put up with one of the lowest state pensions of all the Western industrialised countries.

If England wanted a referendum on leaving the UK. Can one of the other UK countries say no? If not, then England can't say no to them. Scotland and Wales are old countries who had their own monarchs. That is why we're called the 'United Kingdom'. Trying to say they aren't countries is ridiculous.

What on earth was the parades commission in N. Ireland thinking when they allowed an orange order march down Garvachy Road. Something that's been disallowed for almost 30 years for a good reason. They've reopened the Pandora's Box and left the police in a no-win situation. I hope it ends peacefully.

I will give Burnham his dues in his interview with Kuennessberg today. It was refreshing to see a politician actually answer the questions honestly and without prevarication. Whether people agree with his policies or not is another matter.

I preferred the days when the owners/chair of football clubs was a local business owner and a lot of the players came from within a 30 mile radius. That's what you call real local connection. And even if a club fell on hard times on the pitch, the fans rarely called for the owners head.

Give me an area served by dozens of independent local shops specialising in groceries, meat, fish, clothing and hardware. Rather than being served by a handful of supermarkets who offer substandard versions of all these items, then make you self-serve and treat you as a potential shoplifter.

So, Burnham wants to help first time buyers get on the housing ladder. This is yet another scheme that will help the better off, not the poorest. We need rent controls and more council housing, not more home owners subsidised by the public purse.

Maybe we should ban business takeovers. Instead of variety and competition, we get fewer and bigger companies cornering the market and ripping people off through lack of competition. Supermarkets are incredibly wasteful and we pay for that waste. Small independent shops are better and less wasteful.

At least Burnham isn't worried about going to jail.

Those who promote poisonous masculinity, such as Andrew Tate, are probably the least masculine in every sense. They are in fact showing their own insecurity and trying to cover it up by belittling woman. Most of whom wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

Thatcherism destroyed the UK. Yes, there were things that needed fixing in the 70s, but her remedy of selling off the family silver and destroying industry was the exact opposite of what was needed. But instead of reversing Thatcherism, Labour under Blair continued it and are still doing so today.
