I have stared at Dunn Peak on a map for months. Today I made it up to the top. 12,500 feet. We will see if the incoming storm rules out a 13k peak this year or not. Still, the view from Dunn was fantastic.
A pile of rocks at the summit with clouds and neighboring mountains beyond.Sun and clouds create dramatic lighting toward Middle Mountain.

A very general idea for best peak fall colors this weekend: lower mountain areas (7-9k), San Juans, higher foothills. Probably past peak in most areas above 9-10k. Open to your insight as well, basing this in part off your observations (thank you)! #COwx

The USGS map store had a sale of maps for $1 each one time. I picked up a copy of Tau Tho Alpha's drawings from Yosemite locations. It hangs framed in my hallway as one of my favorite things ever.

Have you ever planned time off work weeks in advance with the goal of hiking a bunch only to have persistent rain every day? No? Me neither, but it is raining and I would be hiking some cinder cones if it stopped.

2500 tons of salt. Sent me to some time-wasting searches on whether Great Lakes bulk carriers were already carrying similar weights of coal, grain, iron ore, etc. Maybe not quite, but close. The biggest 20th century lakers (many built in Sturgeon Bay, WI) could carry over 80,000 tons of cargo.
