My grandfather, who is 102 and a medical doctor, has told me about the times before polio was cured. Most years, upon returning to school after summer’s break, there would be some children would didn’t make it back to school because of polio.

My uncle survived polio as a toddler in the mid-1940s, but lived the rest of his life with a severe limp and brain damage from extreme fever. His siblings were sent to their grandparents for months because caring for him through polio was a 24/7 job for his mom.

You can do it!!! Really, I’ve been struggling much too long. (Between my surgeries, Mom’s illness…) I think I’m actually growing in my craft, writing “bigger” narratives, etc, but let’s face it: I gotta finish more work!!! Gotta new crit partner lined up, so it’s do or die or look like a flop.
