A ScrewFix City has opened near my office and is regularly queued out of the door. The people want convenient access to ironmongery and electrical accessories on their lunchtimes!

Spotted this after we’d been in a pizza place which was only a third full but staff were warning about “a long wait for food”. The malign influence of Deliveroo etc, on the eating out experience!

On Sunday I’m helping a friend out by playing guitar with his band, as the guitarist he’d been playing with since they were both about 13 - a really lovely bloke - sadly died earlier in the summer. Suspect there may be more emotions on stage than is usual for a pub gig in Bromley.

My parents went for a break this week at what they thought was a country house hotel but turned out to have originally been the hotel of doomed theme park 'Camelot', featuring a combination of 1980's decor and mock-medieval interior features set in acres of desolation. #VisitBritain

Whenever I visit the National Portrait Gallery, I always have to spend a little time with this portrait of the poet and satirist Alexander Pope painted by Jonathan Richardson in 1737. The economy of mark making, and psychological intensity of the face make the portrait feel surprisingly modern.
