It's Joan of Arc's feast day today. Here's a poem for everyone who needs to remember that there's more to life than the fight.
from 'The Vanishing Song' by Jay Hulme

'What rage or madness drives you?'

Joan of Arc, March 1430

You will not find Joan of Arc in the Bible, she is something stranger than scripture. Her sword rattles among the saints, arms aching for another fight.

When she arrived she found Heaven more difficult than expected -a place of pure justice; her steel unnecessary. Hands unbloodied. Speeches unspoken.

Joan waits for the prayers of wronged women. Her hands grasp the pommel of a blade. When God asks what she is doing in this place of peace, she says:

Lord, you have made me for war, and I have no idea what to do with the gift of all I was fighting for.

the world needs more guinea pig cartographers
A guinea pig cartographer works amongst his maps, using his instruments, with a quill and ink next to him on a wooden table; he looks at the viewer obliquely with a black background in a style that is reminiscent of early modern portraiture. The artist enjoys exploring the histories of art through homages to previous paintings in his whimsical works.

🪬🧿 Good fluff! #sheepdog #sheep #dog #animals #funny #prodigy #herding #alttext
The image is split into two panels. The left panel shows a flock of sheep crammed into what appears to be a kitchen. The sheep are mostly white, with one black sheep visible. Some of the sheep have red markings on their wool. The right panel features a brown and white border collie dog sitting amongst some greenery with a sheep in the background in a field. The text above the images reads "Sheepdog puppy herds entire flock into owner's kitchen," followed by "Metro" and then "A prodigy." Below this, there is a comment by user "sindri42" that reads, "You missed the best part. They weren't even their sheep. This good pupper gathered up a bunch of random sheep it found somewhere on the countryside and brought them home for its human."
