Popular music used to be like "da doo ron ron, da doo ron ron" and now it's like "I GOT THAT FIFTEEN POUND PUSSY MAKE YA BREAK YA NOSE TO EAT HER". But, imho, if they ever saw a fifteen pound pussy that made you break your nose to eat it in the 1950s the Supremes would have sang about that for sure.

Today would've been the sixty-fifth birthday of Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi. It tends to get swallowed up in the enormous franchise it became, but I truly believe that his original manga can provide a valuable lesson to artists about process and work and improvement over time.

battler ushiromiya alt outfit #art #umineko

a drawing depicting battler ushiromiya from umineko in his "usual" white suit with gold details, but a view from behind reveals the artist has interpreted his outfit as a white velour Juicy Couture tracksuit. the one-winged eagle design is across the back of the jacket and "Juicy" is written across his ass, both in gold rhinestones. his original sprite is standing next to the drawing to show the inspiration

🎃 SOCKWORMS ARE HERE FOR SOCKTOBER‼️ 🖐️ FIVE especially spooky seasonal sock designs are here til halloween! make sure to grab them while they're still on the market! if not, they might grab YOU first... 🫵 ꒰🧦 #sockmarket ꒱

five halloween-y sockworms on a "Socky Halloween" storefront background (parody of Spirit Halloween).

to the far left is a "sandsockworm" design similar to the sandworm from Beetlejuice -- a black and white striped sock with a black dorsal fin, red bug-eyes with yellow pupils, and wiggly teal lips.

at the bottom are two orange "sock-o-lantern" sockworms resembling jack-o-lantern pumpkins, one with a happy face and one face that looks more evil.

to the right are two "skelesock" sockworms with skull designs on the head and rib bone designs going down the body. one skelesock has white bones, while the one below has glowing green bones with text that reads "glow-in-the-dark!"

the sandsockworm is 2000 lint, the sock-o-lanterns are 1000 lint each, and the skelesocks are 1250 lint for the normal one and 1500 lint for the glow-in-the-dark one

illustrated cover of "Alina in Her Roots" features the titular character Alina making her way through a crowded Nairobi as she visits for the first time. There are illustrated depictions of the Nairobi streets, like jacaranda tree flowers and a matatu van. The colours are vibrant.

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights** Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight.

From meteorologist Eric Snitil

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights**

"Heads up birders, I would not be surprised if the biggest bird migration night of the year happens over the next 2 nights. Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight. That is a lot, but the pattern could not be better for migratory birds. A massive area of high pressure will turn the low level winds from the northeast to the southwest across most of the US. The last time we had anything similar to this in the fall was early October last year when a record 1.25 billion birds were in flight. I doubt we get to that level, but I suspect the number will top 500 million especially Monday night which looks to be the bigger of the two nights. You can help by turning off those outdoor lights on big migration nights, and the next 2 nights is about as big as it gets."

it would be helpful to mention japanese labor laws re: layoffs as a factor in these types of stories

Quiet Restructuring vs. U.S.-Style Layoffs

In Japan, U.S.-style sudden mass layoffs are rare by law and custom. Instead, firms practice a "quiet change". They curb hiring, redeploy staff internally, and expand early-retirement schemes. For example, Tokyo Shoko Research reports that 46 listed companies in FY2025 offered early retirement to over 20,000 workers. Notably, many announcements emphasized retraining and redeployment over firing. A consultant's study notes that Japanese companies are focusing on "eliminating redundant tasks" to boost productivity, rather than simply cutting headcount.

What, if any, additional considerations apply if large numbers of dismissals (redundancies) are planned? How many employees need to be affected for the additional considerations to apply?
-

In cases of layoffs, courts tend to determine the validity of the dismissal by comprehensively considering the specific circumstances related to the following four elements (Tokyo District Court Decision, January 21, 2000; Osaka High Court Judgment, March 24, 2016, etc.).Since restructuring dismissals are dismissals based on the employer’s circumstances, stricter standards are applied in determining their validity than for dismissals attributable to the employee’s fault. These standards apply regardless of the number of employees targeted for dismissal.

(i) Necessity of Personnel Reduction: The implementation of personnel reduction must be based on sufficient necessity arising from corporate management issues such as recession, decline, or poor business performance, or be recognised as an unavoidable measure.

(ii) Efforts to Avoid Dismissal (Necessity of Selecting Layoffs as a Means of Workforce Reduction) : Measures to avoid layoffs must have been implemented, such as reducing expenses (including cutting overtime pay by stopping overtime work), reducing temporary workers, reducing or eliminating executive compensation and employee bonuses, not renewing fixed-term contracts, halting new hires, suspending pay raises, reassigning employees, or offering voluntary retirement programs.

(iii) Rationality of Selection: Objective and reasonable criteria must be established for selecting employees subject to dismissal, and these criteria must be applied fairly.

(iv) Fairness of the termination process: Conducting labour-management negotiations, individual interviews, and other procedures to provide explanations, disclose information, and engage in consultation with workers.
