This explains a lot. When discussing AI agents with other faculty it’s the folks teaching in fields tasked with producing bureaucratic subjects (Business, Education) that have been the first to bring AI into their classrooms.

The US higher education system is not equipped to correct for the effects of systemic injustice and underfunding at the high school, middle school, and elementary school levels.

A lot of people seem to think that reason, intelligence, and consciousness are widely agreed upon terms for well understood phenomena. Either that or they’re just sloppy thinkers.

Sometimes the semiotic square articulates a relation of concepts that are synthesized in things; sometimes it articulates a relation among things that resolve as concepts. How can it be both? Because the semiotic square is a cootie catcher

It's not hard to understand why appeals to the "center" (which just means the right wing) come at the cost of votes on the left. This seems baffling to many of the "political strategy" minds on here whose apparent plan is to have their cake and eat it

For people just joining us, here's what's happening. AI types sold a bunch of B2B snake oil to C suites who forced it on employees. The promises they made haven't come true and now they're pivoting to a protection racket trying to scare those same idiots who believed the first set of lies

Telling students they can use AI sometimes and for certain things makes as much sense as telling students in a health class that unprotected sex is fine so long as it’s “just the tip”

When I lived in Pittsburgh (circa 2010) the mayor drove around town while a news crew filmed him complaining about the potholes. It seemed weird at the time, but it presaged the next decade of the Democratic Party’s approach to politics
