With all of the Starbucks locations closing, the only places you can get espresso in Uptown these days are Caffe Ladro, Orange Goose Coffee, Nielsen's, Sugar Bakery, Caffe Zingaro, Caffe Vita, the Grounds Keeper, Ceres Roasting, Konvene Coffee, Cafe Hagen, Citizen Collective, Turtle Coffee...

I understand this does not take into account accessibility needs so it can't work in practice, people in power chairs don't wanna go mudding in order to catch the train, but I feel there's gotta be a way to incorporate the concept

Opposing Trump's tariffs alone makes almost all Dems more market-friendly than his GOP. But there's also housing, regulatory reform, deficits, various market interventions, etc. If you really care about free market economics by conventional libertarian standards, Dems win and it's not even close.

This is nuts. @murray.senate.gov: “Tying funding for transit projects to marriage rates and how many babies a woman has is the sort of bizarre and dystopian idea you’d expect in a TV show, not actual policy put forth by the U.S. government — yet here we are."

It's not enough for normal churn to happen without inducing rent increases. Everyone always forgets that people move and they need an ample supply of places to choose from.

Jose Andres is the absolute GOAT. turbolib who has brought meals to disaster zones after the Haiti earthquake & to war-stricken families in Ukraine and Gaza and now he’s YIMBYposting in the face of Spain’s severe housing shortage

Incredible to see the "experts" on resolving the housing emergency that Spain is experiencing! On every television! @telediario_tve @ANoticias
@tele5_noticias @noticias_cuatro The reality is that we have politicians who try to create decrees and solutions when they lack the preparation or knowledge to devise a real solution to the problem we're facing.
Spain doesn't have a problem of a lack of decrees. It has a problem of a lack of housing.
And as long as the Government keeps confusing announcing measures with solving problems, we'll keep paying the consequences of its inaction.
Subsidizing demand without increasing supply pressures prices. Regulating a market more and more without building new housing doesn't eliminate scarcity: it manages it. Taxing a type of rental can change incentives, but it doesn't lay a single brick either.Because housing doesn't get cheaper by distributing scarcity. It gets cheaper by ending it.
Spain needs to build. A lot.
More available land. Permits in months, not years. More density wherever possible. Legal certainty. Much more public housing and also private housing.
But the Government isn't doing what's necessary. It prefers to intervene on the few homes that exist rather than create the conditions for there to be many more. It prefers to present patches as solutions and load the cost of its failure onto owners, developers, and citizens.
The rest can serve to redistribute, protect certain groups, or change incentives. But let's not confuse that with solving the underlying problem.
You don't fix a lack of housing by better distributing the few homes that exist. You fix it by making many more exist.
Less propaganda. Less patches. Less obsession with intervening on the same apartment.
More supply. More construction. More homes.

I'm not naive enough to actually believe this will happen, but Democrats could be preparing, right now, lists of impeachment charges against (at a bare minimum) Hegseth, Kennedy, Mullin, Patel, Blanche, & Trump, as well as Bondi, Bovino, & Noem (still worth doing!) that rely purely on public facts,

Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending

See, that's the problem, I believe you're concerned about what many call e-motos, that can go quite fast and are, for all intents and purposes, motorcycles. Very few people argue they shouldn't have stricter safety standards and registration and insurance and age limits.

That was in Seattle, where there are a lot of long steep hills. I was riding my ebike across Lake Washington and to far reaches of the city. After moving out of Seattle to a more rural area in the foothills of the mountains I still use it to get to work in neighboring towns. Here's my summer commute
The image shows a GPS route map from the Bike Citizens app with a distance of 17.9 miles, a duration of 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 28 seconds, and an average speed of 14 mph near Sultan and Snohomish, Washington.
Below that is a cross section view to illustrate the elevation with 935 ft of total ascent and 922 ft of total descent.
Below that is a graph of speed during the commute. Parked on the side of a country road (blacktop) - A white 2019 Radwagon with large black rear basket and 2 orange paniers. In the basket are 2 large soda bottles refilled with water, large empty coffee cup and straw, and several bungies. There's a yellow KEXP sticker on the side of the battery.

I have a long tail cargo ebike. I purchased it so I could bike farther, with my then young child, and carry groceries and other things. I rode for transportation before that on a push bike but the cargo bike was easier, faster, more capable, while still giving all the benefits of regular biking

I am not a teen, certainly not one of the teens you are thinking of, so I can't answer for them. I have a teen of my own, who does not (yet) have his own ebike. Mainly because I don't want to spend that much for him to have one yet. I can tell you why I choose an ebike over a push bike if you want

20 is too slow. Class 3 goes up to 28 and that seems fine. I can top out at 25ish on mine but if I could do 35 on exurban roads to match car speeds it would actually be safer and lead to fewer angry interactions. The country is large, city regs should be different from suburban and rural

Even hotter take: the fact that ebikes let teens in the suburbs suddenly have freedom to move around the public realm unsupervised is precisely why many older people are trying to ban them (using safety as a pretext)
