No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Japan, stuck in an unwinnable war with China, famously decided to go Leroy Jenkins in hopes of breaking the attritional stalemate. Authoritarian regimes are really bad at rational strategic thinking.

Normalization is treating the president stealing from taxpayers to buy campaign ads and offer bribes to voters like it's just another day. Normalization is reacting with "won't work" or "polls poorly," and not "resign immediately or you'll be removed, we exist because of a revolution against that."

Man, imagine you're minding your own business, getting kind of drunk with your friends at a picturesque brewery in Maine, when suddenly John Roberts walks by and you get to start heckling him. Must have felt incredible. That's the dream. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...
The chief justice used to preside over a Supreme Court whose members were afforded more privacy and freedom than many other public officials. Once, years ago, Mr. Lipson and the chief justice found themselves up the peninsula from Port Clyde without a car, Mr. Lipson recalled in an interview. So he stuck out his thumb by the side of the road and a pickup truck pulled over. He and the nation’s top jurist hopped in the back and hitchhiked back to town.

Now, Mr. Lipson said, he is cautious about introducing his friend to strangers. This year, on an outing to nearby Monhegan Island, people recognized the chief justice as he walked by a brewery and started to chant: You should be ashamed.

I don’t think they understand it isn’t a heroic endeavor either - unless they’re also giving the test takers a professional staff, it’s not a real test of how they’ll manage a crisis

The biggest danger, IMO, is that you develop a system where users who are better at understanding the rubric and the rules get artificially high marks for the traits ostensibly being evaluated. Especially so when folks are coming from a speciality background (signal, logistics, etc)

The trigger for this outcome is a cleavage within the IRGC or between the IRGC and some entity that can scrape together a viable alternative threat of force. Pezeshkian and Araghchi already hate each other and Khamenei is MIA.
