I wrote up some thoughts about the effect of AI on programmer salaries: seldo.com/posts/ai-eff...
A hastily sketched graph of programmer salaries on the X axis, and # of programmers on the Y axis, with two lines: a "before" distribution and an "after" distribution. The "before" distribution has a higher average salary, but there are less of them. The "after" distribution includes the entire "before" but is much larger, although with a lower average.

One of my biggest mental breakthroughs was when I changed my mindset from "This system is stupid and I'm going to spend all my energy fighting it." to "Even though this system is stupid, I'm going to operate within it to my advantage." Much better results, way less stress.

It feels like the technology arms race between candidates and recruiters is accelerating. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of companies (especially smaller ones) stop allowing direct applications and instead source 100% of candidates from warm intros. blog.daviddodda.com/how-i-automa...

if you're a tech journalist in the present climate, it's incumbent upon you to ask why big tech is pursuing dead ends like AI when they could just start using the number 2. ones and zeroes have taken us as far as they can. either chuck a few 2s in there or cede the future of tech to those who will

Finding founding engineers is hard. Really hard. It’s tough to find someone with the combination of skill and appetite for risk, who also doesn’t want to try to start their own thing. (For clarity, I’m offering at- or above-market comp in both salary and equity.)

I need a filter for people ending their posts in obvious engagement-bait questions, especially since it doesn't really work on here. What do you think? Let me know in the replies

instead of scolding young people into having kids, try telling them that someday a crying baby turns into an eight year old full of wonder, and you will get to see art (or baseball games, or video games, or whatever you love) anew through their huge excited eyes

It seems like a good litmus test of someone's experience with software is whether they refer to people who build software as "developers" (or "engineers") or as "coders".

Not dunking on this person in particular, but I hear this a lot from people who aren’t professional engineers. The difficult part of software has nothing to do with code.

Had to re-light our pre-lit Christmas tree this year after 3 of the lines shorted out and blew every bulb. Took four hours to cut the old lights off, and another three to hang the new lights, but happy with the results! Might have gone a little overboard (about 1800 lights on a 7’ tree)

Considering options on cross-posting between here and Twitter but honestly, I might just stop using Twitter entirely. It’s always been a cesspool but since the election it’s gotten insufferable. (As a result of people all over the political spectrum.)
