I've seen some talk about how we are witnessing the end of the professoriate as we know it and this may be true, but I think it's bigger: it's the decimation of the mission-oriented profession. Want to make a middle-class living serving the public good? Capitalism doesn't want that for you.

So many Long Covid patients suffer in silence, dismissed by doctors or left to navigate life-destroying symptoms alone. Odine refused to accept that abandonment as normal. She fought for answers, for dignity, for care. Her work made so many feel less alone, and her loss is deeply felt.

I catch blocks if I talk about C19 but: There’s a new, more contagious strain spreading—“razor blade throat” is one symptom. But, most spread is SYMPTOMLESS. You DON’T KNOW you’re spreading it. More spread, more mutations & variants—>more disabled & dead. Put a mask on in public. We keep us safe.

Side note: Many early career researchers are afraid someone will steal their ideas if they post a preprint. Time and time again, the idea stealer is in the lab or seminar room. Getting your ideas out of there with your name on them can provide protection.

This reminds me of James C. Scott: to govern is to simplify. States impose rigid categories to make societies ‘legible’ and easier to control—but legibility distorts reality. When reality resists, power rewrites the rules to force compliance. AI doesn’t escape this logic; it automates it.
