"And then, that held-breath pause until the dead found their way to us in fragments. Static on the phone, phantoms on TV screens, corrupted emails. Saying: Tell her. Tell him. Tell them I love them. Tell them I was murdered." "Roams The Planet of Our Grief" clarkesworldmagazine.com/theodoridou_...

Clarkesworld gave me my first professional publication, and I couldn't be more thrilled to be in their 20yr anniversary issue. Happy birthday, @clarkesworldmagazine.com! And with one of my favourite stories, too: "Roams the Planet of Our Grief," where a trans boy talks to the dead. As one does.

This is such a poignant story of heroes and monsters and their place in stories. Of old habits and hidden selves who come bursting out of you. Come back to retell the stories you thought you knew but you never really examined. by @natalia-theodoridou.com in @uncannymagazine.bsky.social

Sour Cherry by @nassos.bsky.social. Library borrow last yr; took all I had not to mark up page upon page. Got my own copy but had to catch my breath, back away before re-engaging. Started my revisit 3 days ago. This book will strip the soft bark off every fairy tale in your heart. 🖤 Link next post
The paperback lays open to pages 126 and 127 atop a green cutting mat. A small plain pad of paper is on top, with pencil scribbles: "names/lack of names, Eunice=joyful victory, Eunice merge w/narrator p133, throat/mouth/stomach, cherries-sour cherries-cherry tree" and more. In the background, on the page, a character named Halt sits near a character named Tristan on a beach.

"One Last Round in the Arena of Little Gods (Or, Asan and the Lion" by Ewen Ma

But he sees what he sees and knows what he knows, and can recognize injustice when confronted with one. He has his dignity, after all, and his principles as well.
And right now, those principles seem to be stretched rather thin as he considers for a moment the merits and dangers of sheltering a lost little lion cub who might just be the demon of Lion Rock.

My 3rd Nebula review is @nassos.bsky.social’s dark debut novel. A retelling of the story of Bluebeard, this is a labyrinthine, complicated work. Its difficulty, no doubt, is intentional, meant to mirror the vagaries of trauma & abuse. Powerful & complex, but not for the faint of heart. #booksky
