Obsessed with Damascus goats lately. They look like they were created by H. R. Giger. They both looks and sound stupid as hell. An utter catastrophe of an animal. I love them.

Today I found out that Umberto Eco crafted a version of this meme in the 1980s…
Beware the
alibi of photocopies ! Photocopies are indis-
pensable instruments. They allow you to keep with you a text you have already read in the library, and to take home a text you have not read yet. But a set of photocopies can become an alibi. A student makes hundreds of pages of photocopies and takes them home, and the manual labor he exercises in doing so gives him the impression that he possesses the work. Owning the photocopies exempts the student from actually reading them. This sort of vertigo of accumulation, a neocapitalism of information, happens to many. Defend yourself from this trap: as soon as you have the photocopy, read it and annotate it immediately. If you are not in a great hurry, do not photocopy something new before you own (that is, before you have read and annotated) the previous set of photocopies. There are many things that I do not know because I photocopied a text and then relaxed as if I had read it.

A good part of it has been Chow’s ability to pull money from the federal and provincial governments, an ability unmatched under Tory’s tenure. She threated a tax increase unless Feds paid for sheltering/settling refugees, Feds coughed up. She threatened not to run Lines 5 & 6, province coughed up.

Toronto's experiencing a dip in crime - to historic levels in some cases. About 70% of the encampments on city property disappeared, peacefully dispersed, over the last year. I've not seen Chow pull out any of these statistics about how the city has improved in the campaign.

Another thing is drivers in this town & province didn’t have to lift a finger of protest to get the bike lanes removed. The other side must expend endless time & money & their bodies in the streets.

Looking south on Lansdowne Ave just below Bloor. In the foreground is a life-sized sculpture of a Triceratops skull resting on a red rock. It is realistically painted, and takes up most of the front yard of a house. The foliage on the trees around it is turning yellow and falling on the ground.

A small two-storey detached house in Ottawa's Hintonburg neighbourhood. It is made of red brick and has a small white front porch and, above that, a covered second-floor balcony. In front of it is a large shrub, and in front of that, a Little Free Library on a post. “Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”
