Impressive,mind blowing,absolutely insane, any possible word can't give an idea of what's going on in California. Last week AVERAGE MINIMUM at Pasadena was an unbelievable 76F, 25F above average and 10F above of any other such a period in the past 126 years.

The #Arctic (land & seas poleward north of 60ºN) finished up with the warmest summer on record in ERA5 data from @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social. The five warmest summers all since 2016. However, within 1100km (700 miles) of the North Pole (80° to 90°N) this was the coolest summer since 2014. #Climate

A gentle reminder that if we miss the 1.5°C target (and we certainly will), the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting. Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.

Op deze laatste dag van de meteorologische zomer die uitzonderlijk was, een grafiek met verdeling van de maximumtemperaturen de afgelopen 25 zomers vergeleken met zelfde periode 40 jaar terug. 9-10 graden komen niet meer voor, 36 en hoger was er niet in 1962-1986. Tip @helgavanleur.bsky.social

Earlier this month, a 76 sq km section of Petermann Glacier in northwest Greenland broke away. The newly formed tabular iceberg covers an area about the same size of Manhattan and is estimated to be up to 150 metres thick. This huge loss was captured by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 radar vision ⬇️
