Watched #MatchboxTheMovie last night. Silly, derivative but fun nonetheless. Couldn’t stop thinking that if they wanted to make a film about Matchbox cars, why didn’t they just remake The Cannonball Run?

My pitch would be to normalise releasing old movies at the same level of hype as new movies - I want to see Jaws in my local Vue and I want them to spend Odyssey money promoting it so we're all talking about Jaws (1975), and how it's relevant now, because it's a movie about capitalism will kill you.

How long was it before you spotted it was Tom and Barbara Good, who led a “good” life, and Jerry and Margo Leadbetter, who “led a better” one? Anyway just time to note that if Penelope Keith’s character had been called Hannah, it would have been Tom & Jerry, Hannah & Barbara. RIP Penelope Keith

"We All Stand Together" is one of the dozen or so best melodies of the last eighty years, and the performative distaste for it just shows how people care more for perceptions of coolness than for musical quality.

RIP Marcia Lucas, whose skill as a film editor and storyteller made a clunky independent film called STAR WARS greater than the sum of its parts. Rightly referred to as "Lucas's secret weapon," Marcia had an uncanny talent to see a film from the perspective of an audience--and won an Oscar for it.

But choosing only works if you *know* how you want to feel. What if you’re depressed? What if you can’t choose? Can’t summon the will? Then having a huge menu of options isn’t comforting, it’s paralysing. You need something to already be playing.
