Many bivalves can see! Scallops have hundreds of eyes, which they can even use to resolve simple shapes, to help them navigate while swimming. Giant clams and some other cockles have them too. Juvenile oysters have an eyespot for navigating in the larval phase #clamFacts 🧪

That was our last slug of the evening (we had lost the light and didn't want to lose skin off our knees as it got harder to navigate). Here's a roundup of the evening's sea stars -- plenty of ochre stars in purple and orange, a bat star, and hundreds of little six-armed stars!

Lots of people know that prehistoric sea turtles got big, but it can be easy to underestimate just how huge these things got. The largest verified specimen of a modern Leatherback turtle weighed in at 1,433 lbs, but this Archelon would have been closer to 11,300 lbs. #scicomm #paleosky #paleontology

While in Two Egg I found this soft shell turtle loafing around on a sand road literally surrounded in every direction by cotton fields. I have no idea where there was even one pond for them to have come from. Also the western Two Egg road sign is missing, I'm guessing someone stole it again

2nd pic: the biggest piece looks like a definite mole crab to me! the left piece is the underside of a crustacean, where their legs attach to the smallest piece is some kind of a crustacean limb, likely arm my guess is they're all from the same kind of mole crab see pics for comparison:
