In addition to the broader literacy crisis, we're also in a power literacy crisis. Many folks deeply misunderstand how political power works, who has it, and how to build it. And all of that is happening while more folks are using the language of organizing without grasping its most basic tenets.

oh don’t apologize i think that’s totally fair. i don’t know how to balance accurately describing dems’ positions on trans issues, which range from very bad to very good, with keeping sight of how apocalyptic this is for trans folks. but i think precision is still important

the praiseworthy thing here is the work done in order to bring about the environment in which the rainbow capitalists feel comfortable hoisting their pride flags. praising the capitalists themselves is pointless, they will take those flags back down for a dollar

If you understand that political antisemitism was not just the hatred of the Jew qua Jew, but an entire worldview in which the Jew stands in for border-crossing cosmopolitan ideologies that threaten the nation-state, then you understand why the Israeli right had to reinvent it from first principles.
"The anti-Israel documentary NAZA won a prize at Venice and made international headlines.

But behind the film is a network of newsrooms, nonprofits and activists that received millions from the Soros family's Open Society Foundations"

We must be organized as socialists or things won’t change even with spontaneous riots. You must not just be willing to show up in the streets but the weekly meetings. The rich and powerful are organized and armed and rule the state. Don’t think you can be unorganized and win.

she obviously doesn’t think Black people aren’t marginalized and that would be an crazy conclusion to draw. nothing she said was racist but what you said was transphobic. peace and love

mo @mollllll.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
but you also seem to think insane things about trans people so i imagine that colors your perspective a bit!

mo @mollllll.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
she clarified that she meant “actually, marginalized people will be deterred.” as in there are some people who will be a little less likely to vote because of this, and that the way to address it is not just to say “vote anyways” but ALSO to acknowledge that this is a serious problem and fight it.

idek why i’m engaging with this but how on earth was she being racist by saying that some vulnerable people could be dissuaded by having armed federal agents at the ballot box. i think that’s uncontroversially true

I think two things can be true: intentional cruelty even with zero external stakes is a self-corrupting exercise, thus it’s a duty to ourselves and loved ones to avoid. And also Anthropic is weaponizing a real philosophical question cynically to drum up mystique for their stupid slop engine

agreed. i think “i won’t be dissuaded” can exist alongside “some people will be dissuaded and we need to figure out how to help them”

she was pretty clearly saying that “actually, marginalized people will be deterred from the polls and that's exactly the point.” which is true. and are you arguing that trans people just should stay in the closet and never transition? how are trans people, even white ones, “hyper privileged”?

No matter how bad you're imagining this is, I guarantee it's worse -- explicitly being sold to record sex without consent
One couple, a man and a woman whose TikTok account is dedicated to shopping content designed to garner affiliate commissions on TikTok Shop purchases, have made several videos promoting less-expensive smart glasses. In some of these videos, they market what they claim are light-free glasses by pretending that the woman is unaware that her partner was recording her during sex due to the lack of an indicator light.

“Whew! Dang, baby. That was real good — and a good video, too,” the man tells the woman in one such video. The woman, who’s filmed point-of-view-style as she pretends to zip up her pants, feigns confusion. “Video?” she asks.

👏👏👏 We couldn’t agree more!
When you take a transit vehicle with strangers, there is an inherent trust you're giving to one another. That trust in each other is so essential to the health of our larger society and our democracy.

When we start to drive people away and send messages that that shared space is not a place to be, you're going to see our institutions and our societal structures start to dismantle. I believe in CTA not just for Chicago, but really for our country.

A TRANS MAN IS A MAN.
FULL STOP.
HE DOESN'T NEED TO BE ON TESTOSTERONE, POST-UP, OUTTO EVERVONE STEREOTYPICALLY "MANLY", OR ANY PARTICULAR KIND OF MAN.
BEING A MAN IS HIS GENDER, & BEING TRANS DESCRIBES HIS RELATIONSHIP TO THAT GENDER.

Ezra Klein asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about AI making kids worse at math and reading. Huang’s reply: “Does it matter?” Then he said he doesn’t know his own address or phone number. “We’re going to lose some fine intellectual dexterity.” www.nytimes.com/2026/09/23/o...
So the message of this research out of China, where you were seeing a lot of kids using A.I. to help them, was that when they were using the A.I., they were getting things done faster. But it turned out that the skills they were learning were not holding, that their actual personal performance, at least in the way we traditionally measure it, was degrading.

What do you think when you hear that?

The last part — I completely agree. Try to get a kid to do long division right now. The multiplication table is starting to be forgotten. Doing square roots, my goodness. Basic math is being forgotten. Does it matter?

That’s my question for you.

Yeah. I don’t think it does. I don’t think it does.

But there must be some set of skills that matter.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. But maybe not those. We’re going to discover new ones. Just maybe not those.

There are a lot of skills that don’t matter. My first confession, I actually don’t know my address. And I ——

I don’t really believe that to be true.

It’s completely true. Janine will tell you and Lori will tell you.

One day I had to pump gas — it was a few years ago. They needed my ZIP code, and I panicked. I didn’t know my ZIP code. I don’t know my telephone number. I forget these things. I can live with it.

But let me take the other side because I don’t want to fall into a thing where, because some skills can be safely offloaded ——

Yeah.

I also can’t get anywhere without a mapping system now. Never could, frankly. But I’m a big reader. And one of the skills I really value, one of the capacities I have that I really value is an attention span formed on physical books.

You’re a big reader. I’ve read about the kind of reading you do. And there is, prior to A.I., a lot of concern and noticing among college professors and others that the way people use the internet has probably shortened attention spans.
Some skills can be safely given away. Others are valuable. They are capacities that are needed for that flexibility, for that creative thinking, for that focus. It can’t be the case that everything can be traded off. Some skills can be safely given away. Others are valuable. They are capacities that are needed for that flexibility, for that creative thinking, for that focus. It can’t be the case that everything can be traded off.

Yeah. Well, I think that we’re going to lose some finer intellectual dexterity, but we’re going to be better systems thinkers.

Today’s engineers are far better systems thinkers than I was when I graduated from school. But I was a much better transistor thinker.

What do you mean by systems thinker?

They think of large systems. Today’s computers have trillions, hundreds of trillions of transistors in them. When I first graduated from school, the first chip I worked on had 200 transistors. I knew every one of them by name. No engineer does that today. Most engineers now work well above the transistor, well above the functionality, and they’re cobbling things together to do things.

So you need to think much more about systems and interactions of systems. So some of the lower-level knowledge is gone.
