Bunty & I have had our legs tattooed too. She has a Val Doonican collage on her left & on her right a dramatic portrayal of Liz Truss trickling down. My legs are covered in moths & conkers with pictures of Norman Tebbit & calligraphy featuring lyrics from Chaka Demus & Pliers.🦵

I love Kate Atkinson's work, so much so that when a former dalliance of mine sneered to me that KA was middlebrow (having never read any) well that was definitely a nail in that coffin or maybe it was her own woeful poetry emailed to me unexpectedly one afternoon at work that sealed the casket.
This is the audiobook cover for Our Noble Selves, a historical novel by Kate Atkinson published in September 2026.
• Plot: Set in the summer of 1951 during the Festival of Britain, the story follows war-scarred reporter Harry Flynn as he joins a quirky team preparing for the festival and becomes a suspect when a date goes missing.
• Audiobook Details: Published by Bolinda Audio and read by the author alongside actor Rupert Penry-Jones.

The exercises which I have started today are these from the UK’s NHS, including the other three in the series. www.nhs.uk/live-well/ex... 1. I love their choice of model. 2. They seem well-designed, almost as the NHS knows something about health. 3. There was creaking and groaning and mild joy.

I've spent the past three hours plus wracking my brains trying to remember the name of Chicory Tip. No reason, I don't even want to hear one of their songs. Went down a long cul de sac of farm themes and three named bands like Barclay James Harvest. My brain finally spat it out with a jeer.

Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough. Conker Season. This beauty picked up in Platt Fields, Manchester. 25.09.26 #conkers #horsechestnut
This is a high-contrast photograph showing two views of a single conker (a horse chestnut seed) resting on a vibrant, solid bright yellow background.Image Structure & CompositionLayout: The image is vertically split into two distinct panels separated by a thin white line, creating a "before and after" or multi-angle presentation.Lighting: A single, strong light source from the top-left casts a deep, soft-edged shadow to the right of the object in both frames, giving it a strong sense of three-dimensional depth.Subject DetailsTop Panel: The conker is positioned to clearly display its large, pale, circular attachment scar (hilum) at the top. The rest of the seed curves downward, showing its smooth, dark brown outer shell.Bottom Panel: The conker has been rolled over, hiding the pale scar. This view highlights the glossy, deep mahogany-brown skin, which reflects a bright point of light (specular highlight) on its smooth, rounded surface.

I had to make something that doesn't actually involve looking at that odious creepy twerp Chris Mason's face so thought a picture of the lovely and late lamented BBC political news correspondent John Cole would do instead. #chrismason #bbcnews #johncole
The caption in the joke represents a satirical, fictional "passing of the baton" from one generation of British broadcasting to another.🔤 Breakdown of the CaptionThe speech bubble states: "Mason, quit flappin’ on about yourself, you wee wet shite."The Target ("Mason"): The joke directly targets Chris Mason, who took over the prestigious role of BBC Political Editor in 2022.The Critique ("quit flappin' on about yourself"): This is a playful jab at modern political reporting or on-air personality styles, jokingly suggesting that the newer generation talks too much about themselves compared to the old-school, strictly objective style of the past. The Dialect ("you wee wet shite"): The insult relies heavily on traditional Northern Irish slang. "Wee" means small, and "wet shite" is a common, highly colloquial Northern Irish derogatory phrase used to describe someone who is perceived as weak, annoying, or overly soft/feeble.

Ah that's a shame, word going around that Catherine Ringer of the amazing Les Rita Mitsuoko, legit one of the greatest French acts ever, has died. Her partner Fred Chichin died some years ago, so that's a final conclusion to that remarkable chapter. Here's one of their landmarks, just oozing cool.

Many years ago I thought mixing cream into a setting strawberry jelly would make a nice creamy desert for the then toddlers. And meat-baby was born. For the same toddlers 17th birthday, they’ve asked that I make another one…
A strawberry jelly with curdled cream set into it in the shape of a happy sloth. The curdled mixture has set to look just like shiny meat.

Apparently the next Doctor Who will be a right exhibitionist freak if the new look TARDIS is anything to go by. Currently parked up around the corner from my house. #doctorwho #manchester #timetraveller #mossside #tardis
The image shows an abandoned, damaged commercial double-glass-door beverage cooler (resembling a branded or similar multi-shelf glass-front display fridge) fly-tipped in a narrow, cobbled residential back alleyway lined by red-brick terraced houses and wheelie bins....or is it a TARDIS?

In the 1950s, Alberto Giacometti turned with renewed interest to painting. His 'Still Life of an Apple,' looks simple enough but he was tireless in his efforts to define simplicity. The great thing about paint, he said, is that whatever was painted retained a sense of temporality

'A Venetian Scene.' (1879) Whistler's picture perfectly embodies the wraith-like mystery of Venice, so it appears even more of a fantasy. Many artists have painted from this spot but Whistler gives the city a triumphal view with a sparing use of paint on brown paper.
