Op-Ed: Gregoire and Locke Speaks for Oligarchs, Not the Democratic Base
Former Governors Gary Locke and Christine Gregoire have sought to cut progressive policymakers off at the knees with criticisms about Democrats lacking budget discipline. But their own records show the cost of austerity cuts.

This shows that when in office Democratic Socialists are fiscally responsible while serving the people - first in NYC & now in Seattle. That is how it was a century ago in cities, like Mikeaukee, which had socialist mayors. It was called "sewer socialism." It worked.

Thanks for asking, KUOW! Yes, we are winning for renters: from banning pet rent and other rental junk fees, to adding density throughout our City, to SEPA reform, to my Executive Order streamlined permitting, our renter majority city is seeing real improvements to affordability…
Screenshot of a KUOW article titled, “Seattle Mayor Wilson still rents. Can she help her fellow renters?” with a photo of Mayor Wilson. Screenshots from the articles that say,
“Zohran Mamdani lives in Gracie Mansion. Karen Bass lives in the Getty House. The mayors of Portland, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Chicago all own their own homes.

But Katie Wilson, mayor of Seattle, still rents in the same century-old brick apartment building as before the election last year.

Property records say it's 700 square feet, but the original listing said 650, according to Wilson.

This year, Wilson has banned "junk fees" like pet rent and required landlords to be upfront about other fees, signed legislation or issued executive orders to cut through red tape or overcome procedural roadblocks to building housing, and moved toward upzoning, parts of the city to allow taller, denser buildings.”

I am incredibly saddened by the news of KL
Shannon's passing. She led, powered, and grew some of the most important movements in Seattle. KL was a fierce champion for justice who spent her life fighting for a more just Seattle. Our city is better because KL lived, organized, fought, and loved here. KL showed up to demand police accountability, alternatives to incarceration, environmental justice, and immigrant rights. There was no fight that she felt was too hard when injustice was present.
May we honor her by carrying forward the work she carried for so long.
