Too many planners see cycling as purely recreational and point to trails. But bikes are transportation for many people, and, yet, getting biking infrastructure on primary arterials is still rare. Look at Wisconsin Ave /355. If drivers go there, perhaps people using other modes want to, too.

When you look at expansive suburban neighborhoods, you probably don't think of these as a form of subsidized housing. But the math doesn’t lie: spread-out suburbs generate far lower tax revenues per acre than our compact urban downtowns. Our older urban neighborhoods are subsidizing new suburbs.

Cost of moving the northbound bus stop on Georgia Ave/97 at Aspen Hill Rd to the side with a marked/signalized crosswalk: two lives. We should not have to pay for safe streets with blood.
Satellite image of a giant, oddly-shaped four-way intersection. The seven-lane stroad, which is Georgia Avenue, goes conceptually north south. Aspen Hill Road is on the west side. There is a large slip lane for drivers going south on Georgia to west on Aspen Hill. On the east side, there is the driveway to the cemetery. The cemetery driveway also runs conceptually north south. The west, south, and east legs have marked crosswalks. The north leg crosswalk is unmarked. There is a pair of bus stops on the north side of the intersection. The bus stop for going north is just north of the cemetery driveway. The bus stop for going south is further north, at a shopping center driveway. The bus stop for going north is supposed to get moved to somewhere on the south side of the intersection.

True, a military budget of $1,500,000,000,000 in money we don’t have, borrowed from future generations who could not vote about it, and who can never repay it, is far more dangerous to the national security than any threat from abroad. But there’s still a lot of enthusiasm about it.
