We are deeply disappointed to learn that County Executive Elrich once again baselessly plans to veto the appointment of dedicated and experienced affordable housing professional James Hedrick to the Planning Board. We call on the Council to overturn this veto, as they did unanimously in 2023. (1/2)

Four years ago, we rallied outside the Chevy Chase Library with @actioninmontgomery.bsky.social to call for a new library with affordable housing just blocks from the Purple Line. We won unprecedented budget language for a library with housing—and in 2026, we won it a second time.

I'm leading this bike ride! I've got my playlist all queued up. Also we're having pupusas at Doña Azucena at the end! Ride past some proposed upzonings, see some nice community spaces, talk with planners about how awesome new housing can be. I suspect @ggwash.org readers will like this ride too.

📣 GREAT news — MoCo Council votes UNANIMOUSLY to restore 2022 budget language calling for a mixed-use redevelopment w/ housing at the Chevy Chase Library! 🎉 CE Elrich's proposed 2026 CIP had removed this language and replaced it with 'improvements to the existing library.'

Budget language from 2022:
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Chevy Chase Library was originally included in the approved Library Refurbishment Level of Effort (LOE) Capital Improvement
Project (CIP). This project will provide a new library with a mixed-use development at the site of the existing library.
