Suburban MD. Air quality in the very unhealthy zone from Canadian wildfires, w/ heat dome of high 36C & feels likes 42C. It is only early 2000s and climate change brings us this. Meanwhile our leaders vote on ending daylight savings, rant about elections they won, & give us arcs & patriot games.

A contractor building Meta's data center flushed its "closed-loop" cooling system straight into Cheyenne's sewer. It carried a bacterium and knocked the city's water-reuse system offline for months. They sell these as sealed systems that barely touch the water. This one poisoned a city's.

It is incredibly confounding. We are seeing signs of climate change that are palpably, searingly obvious to everyone, but everyone in power seems intent on downplaying the link, or making out it is about “woke air conditioner attitudes” or some such nonsense.

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

Record daytime high temperatures and heat indices are getting all the attention in this N American heatwave, as in the recent European heatwave. As big a health risk is the high overnight temperatures; inability to cool off overnight is a primary driver of sickness and death during heatwaves.

And saying we know how to build buildings that can withstand the heat is also so much b.s.-the built environment doesn’t turn over fast enough for that to be a viable solution, and definitely not an equitable solution to the problems today and in the near future

The heatwave in Europe is so extreme, it's 25–32°F (14–18°C) above normal. You read that right. France recorded it's hottest day ever. The UK had its hottest ever June day. The ground is exceeding 122°F (50°C). People are dying. Tell me again why we shouldn't talk about climate change???
