Shopping isn't politics, and while voting *is* Politics (Big P), it's *also* not politics (small p). A boycott, on the other hand, *is* politics.

The most important way to fight data centers is to take everyone you meet protesting one and organize with them to scare the shit out of "your" politicians so they don't *dare* compromise on *anything*.

Oligarchs have it easy. Where we have to convince people to fight, they can pay or threaten them to bring them into line. But oligarch power is wearing thin. The data-center uprising shows how much fury there is out there, looking for a productive outlet: www.bloodinthemachine.com/p/with-the-b...

With the backlash to data centers, Flock and AI glasses, a mass opposition to big tech is underway. Silicon Valley is in denial.
The backlash against data centers is difficult to understand if your salary depends on your not understanding it.

But changing the system requires systemic work. Hell is other people because other people are *great* but it's *so hard* to get them to do things your way. That takes time and understanding and togetherness and arguing and forgiving.

What's more, "shopping" has the same relationship to "boycotts" that "voting" has to "politics." It's a *step* you take, *after* you've laid a lot of groundwork with other people, as part of a mass movement.

And yes, as part of a boycott, you make some consumption choices. You buy X instead of Y. But "shopping" by itself isn't a boycott. You can't "vote with your wallet" (especially not when billionaires get to vote against you with *their* wallets): pluralistic.net/2025/09/13/c...

It's also the same move that transformed "boycotts" into "shopping." Boycotts are a collective enterprise. Before a boycott takes place, small-p political groups hold meetings, organize alternatives and communicate their demands.

Voting for Mamdani was important. It got him elected. But staying organized - in unions, neighborhood clubs, affinity groups, DSA chapters and mutual aid groups - is what's letting him get stuff done, and stopping him from bailing on his promises as politically infeasible.

Here's a funny thing about the right to vote: it wasn't won by voting.
Two suffragists in period dress, ceremonially putting ballots into a ballot box. The background has been replaced with an elaborate collage of 19th C printing-press parts. The ballots are glowing with radiant spikes. The face of the ballot box has been replaced with an Nvidia Vera Lynn GPU.

your response to “I was raped” should not be “I was right”
4 panel comic

Panel 1:
A Purple Woman looks distraught, on the verge of breaking down. She says “that man raped me”
Orange Guy standing next to her is absent-mindedly checking his nails. He says “Wellll, I’ve always disliked him and his work.”

Panel 2:
Purple Woman begins to cry. Orange Guy adopts an incredibly smug expression and says “Guess I must just be a good judge of character”

Panel 3:
Purple Woman dissolves into sobs. Orange Guy notices, puts his hand on her shoulder and says “Aw”

Panel 4:
Purple Woman crumples to the floor. Orange Guy, looking bemused, asks “Are you crying because you’re jealous of how smart I am?”

Latest: I wrote about internal ICE reviews---now deleted from ICE's website---revealing new details medical neglect in detention centers. The reports contradict DHS' public statements both generally and specifically about in-custody deaths reason.com/2026/10/01/i...
According to the internal report on Blaise's death, "A mortality review committee (MRC) determined BTC did not provide Ms. BLAISE medical care within the safe limits of practice."

The MRC found that, after Blaise collapsed, "1) BTC health staff deviated from basic life support (BLS) protocols; 2) Health staff failed to initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), despite Ms. BLAISE's pulselessness; and 3) Health staff did not include Ms. BLAISE's vital signs with their documentation of the emergency response."

The mortality report contradicts the public report ICE published on Blaise's death, which claimed that staff called for emergency medical services (EMS) and "immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation" and "continued providing CPR until EMS personnel arrived."
