Got here early for this week's main delivery and checked the tracking occasionally, seeing it getting ever closer... but now they say they weren't able to deliver my boxes today and will try again tomorrow! I'm guessing the van broke down. Grrr.

American film buffs love Stalker because of its haunting, melancholic cinematography and dramatic tension that lays bare the human psyche, but that's just what rural Eastern Europe is normally like. This shit would happen to me 2-3 times a week when I was a kid.

Three men are standing in a large bare concrete room. It's run down and the floor is covered with a thick layer of sand.

"...a writer of stories who uses the material of science fiction, the thematic accretion inherited from Verne & Wells & Gernsback & Kuttner & Sturgeon & Asimov and Bradbury & Clarke & everybody else along the way..." (Robert Silverberg, Introduction to George Alec Effinger's Irratonal Numbers, 1976)

Another description of what science fiction is includes the term 'thematic accretion'. Bob Silverberg came up with in a description of what science fiction involved back in 1976. Great term! 1/2
