Today I’ve been making lots of plans for the next month or two, both work and home. In everything, I’m feeling the weight of a lot to do! #OscillatingOctober #Day2

Why is it that Outlook thinks that when I’m scrolling up my inbox to find emails from a few days ago, I must want to go to the top of my inbox to see the emails from a year ago?!

Today I walked out to chess club and back, having sat working all day. It was nice to walk, to see lots of people, and to chat. #OscillatingOctober #Day1 We had been planning for Celebrity Traitors, but will have a bumper night tomorrow!

Today, despite my dodgy knee having had a major comeback yesterday, I continued to walk on each side of my commute, and don’t think I’m the worse for it. Though not feeling better either #SeptemberStrengths #Day29

Today I was doing our librarian Helpdesk drop-in & I actually got students come with my kind of enquiries. Lovely after a summer of on call & quiet before that. I like appointments, but it is a thrill to be getting on with work & have a colleague direct someone over to me #SeptemberStrengths #Day28

Today I admitted that I needed to rest to get over the annoying fresher’s flu (and to combat the fact that I’m constantly sleep deprived) and went back to bed for several hours. I felt so much better afterwards. #SeptemberStrengths #Day27

I for some reason decided to put on an optional sign-up in person class first thing Monday of week 1. I thought I might regret it, and not have much interest. But it is fully booked! Remains to be seen how many people actually attend, but I am pleased.

This evening I have had my work laptop on, to do some reflective writing for something with an upcoming hard deadline (ideally done ages ago!). It’s been useful - I love prompts for getting me to think. More to do tomorrow. #SeptemberStrengths #Day26

This is what happens to me
A diagram showing how a process moves from “great new idea” to “start new project” and on to “tell everyone” and then the process skips “finish project” and jumps right back to starting again with another “great new idea” and repeats the process; so every project remains unfinished because the process skips finishing the project in favor of just starting a new project every single time. No project is every finished

Over today and yesterday I have obsessively listened to the audiobook of The Traveler, by Joseph Eckert. It was brilliant. And having a brilliant audiobook has meant that I’ve done a lot more walking #SeptemberStrengths #Day25

Today positive progress was made, in multiple ways, on something that I’d begun to feel a tiny bit uncertain of. Though this has come with more questions. #SeptemberStrengths #Day24 Deliberately being vague here, as I document my life on the internet, mainly for my own future reference!

Today I had a nice random conversation and scifi fantasy books. And multiple other conversations about books actually, with students at our Library stall at welcome week. My librarian activity isn’t usually fiction book heavy, and then occasionally it is #SeptemberStrengths #Day23

This evening I was out in central London, and felt so much at home. I loved the smell as I came out of the station onto The Strand. I loved being asked for directions, I loved seeing all the people. And of course conversation and catch up with a friend #SeptemberStrengths #Day22

Today we watched My Fair Lady. I know & love many of the songs from this, but probably haven’t watched it in full for 30 years. While I still love the songs, & enjoyed watching it, the story is even more problematic than I expected. & various random areas for improvement #SeptemberStrengths #Day20

Big news. I have just closed my web browser that I’d gradually added about 50 tabs to over the last few days. I may come to regret this as I need them all again, but everything was getting too hard to find.

Yesterday I was feeling frustrated at how hard I was finding it to create sentences with different examples of paraphrasing (for an activity I’m developing). Then I switched the article I was citing from, to a completely different topic, & it all felt so much more possible #SeptemberStrengths #Day17

Another value of working in a Library. I was getting towards the end of a public library e-book on Libby, but didn’t finish it before it expired, with a long holds list (I usually avoid borrowing ebooks & just get audiobooks, cos of this). But I realised we might have it in print at work. And we do!
A paperback book. Stories of your life and others, by Ted Chiang. Blurring black to yellow cover, with a mathematical formula in the shape of a human head. Library stickers on the spine.
