Henry & Mudge, but also Putter & Tabby, the Branches line (the Mister Shivers books are fantastic); and there are gobs of great graphic novels for this age reader. I’d make a list at a local B&N and then get busy with interlibrary loans. Makes me sad when libraries fail the community.

Sounds like a specific library problem, as there are tons of this kind of book published all the time. (My team reissued Mrs. Piggle Wiggle twenty years back.) Scholastic’s Branches line is superb—my daughter learned on them—so maybe interlibrary loans of specific lines and authors?
