Sinners is set in the city of Clarksdale, MS. Problem: there’s no theatre there. So, the citizens wrote to Warner Bros to bring the film to them. Today they & Ryan Coogler did! What a beautiful day!

Every comic creator's obituary is like, he created this iconic character who was in a movie that made $700 million last year. He died with a net worth of $12 after the publisher countersued him.

Succinctly states where we are and what's happening. These three things, in addition to doing much else, are the sheet anchors of American wealth and power.

The house has passed a ban on coverage of gender care for all ages under Medicaid, CHIP and ACA plans. I don't know what to say to anyone this morning other than that the hundreds of thousands of people who are about to lose access to the care they need to stay alive deserve better than silence.

there's so many layers of fraud and abuse in this story that "someone might have been trying to log into the NLRB's systems with a valid Doge username and password from russia" doesn't even make it into the first 5,000 words
Within minutes after DOGE accessed the NLRB's systems, someone with an IP address in Russia started trying to log in, according to Berulis' disclosure. The attempts were "near real-time," according to the disclosure. Those attempts were blocked, but they were especially alarming. Whoever was attempting to log in was using one of the newly created DOGE accounts — and the person had the correct username and password, according to Berulis. While it's possible the user was disguising their location, it's highly unlikely they'd appear to be coming from Russia if they wanted to avoid suspicion, cybersecurity experts interviewed by NPR explained.

If we were conquered and under hostile occupation, what would the government do differently? Would an occupation government that wanted to crush the United States as a vibrant, prosperous country with influence around the world do anything differently?

Wearing a “Protect Trans Lives” pin feels like such a small and inadequate thing to do, but while I was standing in line the other day a little girl of 10 or 11 saw it and said “I love your pin!” with a bright smile. You never know who will be encouraged or comforted by the small thing you’re doing.

I've written a one page patch for the new D&D Players Manual where I solve the problem of people's campaigns grinding to a halt because they can't schedule a game. PDF is the link. Print it out. Stick it in your manuals. May work for other games too. #ttrpg #dnd oldmenrunningtheworld.com?p=304
A full page of guides to how to schedule games in the style of the D&D manual. The link has the full PDF - I couldn't get all the text there in an ALT text.

My favorite graphic…R ideology has careened rightward for decades but Ds (as of this now-outdated 2013 chart) hadn’t moved much at all. I wish I could update this with more recent data but I’m not sure I have the skills for that. And I suspect that Ds have now been dragged rightward of Reagan.

Apologies in advance for what might look like a rambling diatribe going nowhere. But the one thing I know really well - better than almost anyone else - is boxing. And there’s a really valuable lesson from boxing that the Democratic Party needs to learn in a hurry. Let’s start with the boxing bit.

I can't think of a faster way to undermine the country than simultaneously firing government workers, cutting scientific research, rolling back protections on public health & environment, & cutting essential services. It's like the US was defeated in war and is being occupied by a hostile enemy.

This is a beautiful tribute.
kyle_maclachlan Forty-two years ago, for reasons beyond my comprehension, David Lynch plucked me out of obscurity to star in his first and last big budget movie. He clearly saw something in me that even I didn't recognize. I owe my entire career, and life really, to his vision.
What I saw in him was an enigmatic and intuitive man with a creative ocean bursting forth inside of him. He was in touch with something the rest of us wish we could get to.
Our friendship blossomed on Blue Velvet and then Twin Peaks and I always found him to be the most authentically alive person I'd ever met.
David was in tune with the universe and his own imagination on a level that seemed to be the best version of human. He was not interested in answers because he understood that questions are the drive that make us who we are. They are our breath.
While the world has lost a remarkable artist, l've lost a dear friend who imagined a future for me and allowed me to travel in worlds I could never have conceived on my own.
I can see him now, standing up to greet me in his backyard, with a warm smile and big hug and that Great Plains honk of a voice. We'd talk coffee, the joy of the unexpected, the beauty of the world, and laugh.
His love for me and mine for him came out of the cosmic fate of two people who saw the best things about themselves in each other.
I will miss him more than the limits of my language can tell and my heart can bear. My world is that much fuller because I knew him and that much emptier now that he's gone.
David, I remain forever changed, and forever your Kale. Thank you for everything.

Remembrance post by David Lynch’s family, confirmed by Variety.
It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch.
We would appreciate some privacy at this time.
There's a big hole in the world now that he's no longer with us. But, as he would say, "Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole."
It's a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way.

These galaxies have also been observed with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, the Very Large Array, and the Hubble Space Telescope, providing a multi-wavelength view of some of the Milky Way’s neighbors. The JWST images show filamentary structures of warm gas and reveal young star clusters that were hidden in previous observations.

This morning @adampknave.com reminded me of what is one of my all-time favourite comics anecdotes. Partly because it’s funny, partly because it’s so incredibly true about how perfect JLGL’s work always was
As I sat in my office one day, a man stepped into my doorway and stared at a point on the wall behind me and just above my head. Although l'd never met the man, I knew his distinctive face. It was Jean Gireaud, a.k.a., Moebius, and he was staring at a drawing of Wonder Woman by José Luis García-López.
Without acknowledging me, he inched his way into my office and behind my desk until he was just in front of the drawing. He shifted his glasses down off his nose to get a better look at the drawing. After a moment, he turned to me.
"This García-López," he asked in a heavy French accent. "He uses models, no?"
"No," I answered, smiling.
"Son of a bitch!" Moebius hissed.
He didn't need to say another word. I already knew it was the highest compliment one artist could pay to another.
